Can you cut the chain to the length desired? Also, how does the chain attach itself from one end to the other?

Answer: 
Use a needle-nosed pliers to open one end or one link (at any length).
To attach to the other end, use regular pliers to open the other end - interlock the two pieces - and use a regular pliers to clamp shut.
No problem. Works well.

Answer: 
The local store would be able to assist in cutting chain. You can use one of the cut links to attach one end to the other, by crimping the end. There are also other fasteners that would work for this purpose.
