It might do it if you use heavy duty screws to hold up to that much weight.

Answer:
Since I was just using it to hold kitchen knives how much weight it could hold did not factor in but its really strong I have to get a firm grip to pull knives off.

You have seventeen 20 pound items only 1 inch wide? It would not a hold a two point hitch ball because it was not flat.

Answer:
I would not trust any magnetic bar or even series of bars with 340 lbs. This bar is super strong and useful for the shop owner...and with normal working tools...screwdrivers, scissors, hammers...saws, etc

cutting to shorter length

This question is from 17-1/4 in. Wall-Mounted Magnetic Tool Bar

If I cut this to a shorter length with a metal cutting saw, will I degrade the magnetic strength substantially so that it had considerable less than half the holding power per lineal inch? I realize that generally cutting a magnet results in two magnets but unsure whether the vibration of the cutting might somehow demagnetize the bar to a degree metallurgically. Same question for drilling a whole from from to back (which I would use to screw it to the wall rather than the tabs that it comes with. The 20 lbs per inch is at least 5 times more holding power than I need.

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. According to the manufacturer cutting the magnet in half will weaken the strength. Drilling holes in the front would splinter the magnet and cause failure. They recommend not altering the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid tool bar I picked up this toolbar to hold my machetes securely in a convenient location so that I would be ready for the zombie apocalypse. It is one solid bar with some serious grip, with a 16-inch length to secure well to two studs. The included screws were good, but I used some Spax screws to maximum grip. All considered, this is a great tool bar and a tremendous value for the price, and it even has space for all five machetes. I may need to get a few more tool bars... zombie apocalypse, here I come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wicked Strong! I have now bought four of these magnetic strips since I got my first one. I have one by my drill press that holds a whole rack of bits and an assortment of other specialty accessories. I have two mounted by my battery charging station for all the other type bits that go with my battery drills. The other one is mounted on my toolbox cart and holds tools that I'm using to do a particular job without having to search for them. I absolutely love these! They hold a tremendous amount of weight, unlike a number of cheaper ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a must have product! As you can see in the picture, this is great for tool layout and ease of access. They are much stronger than any other magnetic bars that I have previously tried. I've got 24 of these on the shop floor and 3 at the house, can't live without them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Liked it so much, I bought another one This bar works exactly as advertised. It is a clean, efficient way to store tools. I use mine to keep some common tools handy at the top of the basement stairs. I have pliers, wrenches and even a hammer hanging on it. It worked so well that I bought another one to keep my scissors organized and available. It is a very powerful magnet, and the bar itself is pretty heavy. I definitely recommend securing it to studs. They tend to stick together and tear up their packaging in the store, so be sure to check the condition of the one you are buying. Also make sure the screws are in the package (though it is pretty hard for them to fall out since they will stick to the magnet).
