Customer Questions & Answers

Not shown in the parts breakdown is the sleeve or anchor that the stem is inserted into before re-installing the caster into the chair leg.

I have been to local Home Depot stores; they have the caster but not the sleeve. It is usually plastic and grooved to stay in the socket where the stem fits. Mgr said they used to carry them. The sleeve keeps the caster from falling out of the chair leg whenever the chair moves (rolls) from place to place. I have seen these stem covers or sleeves in other IPB's for the 2" brass hooded ball stem caster. Price is a whopping 20 cents, plus $17.00 to $34.00, for shipping. Can you do better?
Asked by: Ron
None of mine (from 3 stores) had the sleeve with them. Luckily, my previous casters had the same mounting, so I used them, Those sleeves, however, can be purchased separately for nominal cost.

The description for this caster indicates it is made of plastic. The specs say rubber. Which is it? And which xample: How do I get the doors to shut?

We heard that some casters are better on different surfaces. We have a carpeted office. We also have vinyl in the kitchen and laminate in the den. Which is best with which surface...plastic or rubber? Thanks.
Asked by: Doug
It looks and feels like rubber. The wheels are somewhat "cushion-y".

Customer Reviews

2 in. Brass Hooded Ball Stem Caster with 80 lb. Load Rating is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for Daily Use I bought a set of these for a desk chair. After a few months, we kept finding ball bearings on the floor around the desk. I replaced one that was obviously missing bearings. The problem continued. Finally, I returned the whole set to Home Depot and they gave me a new set. We figured the failures were related to a specific batch of casters. The new set failed within 6 weeks! 3 wheels lost ball bearings and the whole chair became wobbly. I had to purchase new ones from a wheel/caster company. Yes, they cost more, but I'd rather spend 8 dollars a wheel and have them last.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Timely reply; only took 5 months. Good, very good! The sleeve is essential to using the castor. Without it , the assembly is not complete; therefore useless. So much for attention to detail. You failed on this one, as small an example as it is in the grand scheme of things!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great castors Best purchase ever. The chair rolls MUCH easier. We even put similar wheels without the stem.
