Customer Questions & Answers

What does this hook to and is it safe for outside and inside?

Would this work outdoors or will it wear down from the weather? Does it come with something to connect to on the other side?
Asked by: Jenni
It came with 2 screws and a hook. The screws I screwed into the outside of my house (it was a wooden block that held up my porch roof) and then then hook I screwed into a tree that is about 17 feet away.

The only (but pretty big) downside is that the "locking mechanism" does not work: you have to wrap the line around that hook at the base of the dispenser and it just keeps sliding out slowly as you addclothes. Will have to figure something out.

The base is connected to my house and the hook I have in a tree. I noticed people complained that the line would get loose or sag as they added clothing. After you connect the line to the hook, wrap the line 2 times around the cleat. Once will still slowly release line, but 2 times seems to hold it, I also do a sort of figure 8 to help it grab the line and hold it. I have placed clothing, towels, king sheets, king bed spreads (not all at once). I can probably fit 2 king sheets and 1 king bedspread at once. Otherwise it can fit about a small to medium sized load of clothing.

Clothesline is pretty good if you pay attention to wrapping it around the cleat after extending. Instructions don't really address that and just the cleat doesn't really tension it enough to allow hanging heavy items. I bought a small turnbuckle and installed it at the attaching hook. That allows a lot tighter line. Installation was straightforward and easy. Depending on where it's mounted, drilling a pilot hole makes it much easier.

I've had it a few weeks now, it's simple if you read the instructions, and it works. Not much else to say. It is just a clothesline, after all - which is why I won't give it 5 stars.
