Customer Questions & Answers

Should this hinge be used for a solid door 28" x 78"?

Want to know if will hold up for solid door during open and closing?
Asked by: Jaygillroy
The back of the packaging says for 1 3/8" doors, most likely not intended exterior doors (1 3/4"). I have used them successfully on both thicknesses with solid core doors. If used on exterior door, I would recommend using 3" screws for a more secure door.

How do you remove the pin?

I'm trying to install a hinge pin door stop, but I can't get the pin on this hinge to come out! I tried using a small screwdriver and hammering up from the bottom but it didn't budge. I saw a comment that you can use an 8-penny nail, so I tried using a long screw (didn't have an 8-penny nail) but that just stuck in the hole and didn't budge the pin either. I've tried having the door completely closed and also slightly ajar when doing this. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong! Thanks in advance!

A small punch and a hammer. They come out by tapping the hinges pins up.

How do you get the pin out?

I have installed countless doors. How do you get the pin out of these? Mine look to be pin less.
Asked by: Chill
I have not attempted to remove the pin from these I can tell you they're quite sturdy, I have about a dozen outside for barn doors Maybe they are pinless

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst design ever! Just keep wondering how to get the door pins out! Cause there are no instructions! Ask the internet and give it a try! Designed to prevent you from scuffing up the hinge, so when pins are hard to remove, you can scuff up everything else!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from They are good They are not cheaply made and work as intended though if replacing existing ones I would be sure to have longer screws on hand just in case

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice hinges! These are exactly the hinges I was looking for for every single door in my house. Awhile back I replaced all the grubby brass (?) doorknobs and now I'm replacing the hinges gradually. I just replaced nine and have 12 to go. They look good, as you can see by the pic, and they're easy to install. Also, they price was right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit replacing old brass hinges These hinges fit perfectly in the cutout from my old hinges. One bit of advice - the pins can be removed by driving an 8-penny nail up from the bottom.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Had to take them back The security tabs did not align properly and the doors would not shut completely. I am rehanging a set of double doors, and there is no room for error with these tabs. If you are off by 1/32" the doors will not close with these hinges. I would not recommend this product for anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hinges I saw the 12 pack on Amazon, and then checked homedepot.com for a three-pack since I was only changing one door. Seeing that it was available at my local store was awesome, because I was heading back anyway. These are nice quality, with the dark finish covering each and every surface of the parts, as well as the screws. They are denser and quieter than the noisy, cheap brass ones they replaced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from These are nice, but... These polished chrome hinges are very nice but the security feature leaves an extra hole, so you will have exposed wood showing through unless you paint before installing the hinge. Still not sure what security it provides. Pro: The 3 pack was cheaper than the others. Also, you can remove the door hinge by driving a long nail up through the hole in the bottom of the hinge if you want to install a door stop.
