Customer Questions & Answers

How many spring hinges to use per door?

I have 3 hinges per door. Do you need to replace all 3 with spring hinges or just (2) the top and bottom hinges?
Asked by: GC
A standard interior house door only needs 1 spring hinge to work. However I did have a door with lots of carpet pile friction so needed to add another spring hinge. If your door has 3 hinges it sounds like it could be a heavier door requiring the help of a second spring hinge. You can try one at first and then add a second one if needed.

how do I make it to keep a door open

Asked by: RB3997
Actually incorrect - you can adjust to keep door open. I know because I did so accidentally. I turned wrench the wrong way, counter clockwise and the door kept opening. I had to take the hinge back off to get the locking pin out and correct. So yes it is possible - just not in the instructions (which annoyingly aren't specific).

How to adjust hinge

I have one of these door hinge installed but I wanted understand how to adjust the hinge so that it closes automatically.
Asked by: albert
Turn the Allen wrench in the opposite diectin you want the door to swing. Keep wrench tensioned and then insert the locking pin. So turn clockwise (to wind up the spring) to make door close or counter clockwise to make the door open. I had to take the hinge back off to get the locking pin out when I adjusted the wrong way. The instructions are annoyingly not specific on the direction. Hope that helps.

These are not pin removable?

Asked by: Piero
Correct, these do not have a top pin that is removable. The only removable pin is the one to adjust the tension on the spring.

3-1/2 in. Satin Brass Adjustable Spring Door Hinge is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for.... The hinge is well constructed, lined up fine with the screw holes, just had to slightly modify the mortise on the door and the wall side to get a nice solid flush fit. The only question I have, is it supposed to make a grinding sound when closing- oh yes, I tried WD40, slicone spray lube, and regular machine oil to no avail- any suggestions?? Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works fine Put this one hinge on my new, homemade back porch door. Didn't bother to mortise for any of the hinges since it's such a rustic installation. Still works fine. Provides a nice, gentle close (and no, there's no grinding on mine).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sprng Door Hinge The hinge is made of Steel not Brass, but has a Brass finish. The hing is HD and good for Commercial use. The hinge has a fully adjustable spring that offers different closing speeds. It was easy to adjust the spring for how fast or how hard you want the door to close. This should last for years> Well made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worked like a charm I needed something to close the basement door so the baby didn't fall down the stairs when it was left open. It took 5min to put on and figure out. Its a life saver if you have kids and are worried about doors being open

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for what I needed I bought one of these hinges and put it on my basement door. The door is very easy to close, so I only replaced the middle hinge. The original hinge was rounded, so I just had to square the corners with a chisel to install it. Very easy to install; closes the door easily on the lowest setting
