Questions & Answers

are there special mating fittings that make up these dielectric hose ends, or can you use copper and brass threaded fittings?

Asked by: john
Depends on the application. One a hot water heater for example--which is the most common example of this type of fitting--you would simply us a dialectric nipple... and then any type of supply line that you choose. (I recommend the traditional copper flex lines... NOT the braided stainless steel type!) The dialectic nipples keep the copper and the brass and the steel--all found on how water heaters / supply lines--separated--to prevent more rapid corrosion and failure.

How tight do you make them

Asked by: john
Hi John, Per the instructions on the product label, hand tighten plus 1/4 turn with a wrench. Do not over tighten.

I realize these say "FIP". Are they made to be directly screwed on to Galvanized Iron Pipe ends & nipples or not. I ask because it doesn't seem like there is much of a flat surface contact on the neoprene washer for a good seal and if slight damage, or not a clean cut-off, at the pipe end ??? Are they "supposed" to be used with some adapter or as-is with iron pipe?
Asked by: seel81
Hi seel81, The end will directly screw on to galvanized steel pipe threads. Yes the water tight seal is made between the thick rubber washer and the end of the pipe. If the end of your pipe has corroded, and no longer has a smooth continuous rim at the end, it should be replaced. No adapter is used. Use as-is on male pipe threads.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Both Lengths LEAKED Immediately I bought several of the 24 inch and one of the 15 inch. Yes, they thread on easily. Leaked right out of the Home Depot bag. The pipe joint and threads were fine. Instead, they leak at the manufactured part that is below the fitting (the outer RED ring), with no way to stop that. Taking them all back for a refund. They leaked immediately, under very low pressure, even with teflon tape and appropriate torque. It is a QC manufacturing defect, from .... drum roll ..... China. Big surprise, there. I will NEVER buy anything from this brand again, since it cost so much more for the extra trips and re-sourcing, time for refunds, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge improvement over older water heater connectors This flexible, sheathed water supply line is far superior to the older copper connectors that could actually be kinked and were difficult to reuse in any different configuration (new water heater connection in a different location than the older one, for example). Made installation of a hot water recirculation pump MUCH easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3/4"FPT × 3/4"FPT I bought 2 of these(cold water supply and hot water discharge) for the flexibility of plug-in-play when I have to replace my water heater. At the time(11/11/04) they were Watts brand then, almost 12 years old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from STAINLESS STEEL WATER HEATER SUPPLY LINE In my opinion these are the best supply lines. 3 Things, make sure the rubber washers are in the ends of the hose. Get a long enough hose so it doesn't kink. Make sure it's clear of the exhaust tube on gas water heaters.
