Customer Questions & Answers

does the valve 116-4-34-EB need to be disasembled before soldering?

Asked by: Bob
No. Sweat joints with valve in open position with handle removed (to prevent accidentally burning the plastic covering). Heat joint just warm enough to flow solder, no more. Lots of joints and valves are ruined by overheating. Alternate heating both sides of joint (9 & 3 o'clock), add some flux as needed, and solder should flow in like thin syrup. Rub joint lightly with a damp rag to remove excess solder. After joint is cool use damp rag to clean off excess flux.

Will this be good to use on an air conditioning unit? I'm looking for a valve to put on the Acoil so it can be taking off and cleaned without losing any refrigerant.

This would be a good product to use if the need arises.

These valves are intended for indoor use.

The specifications say this valve is compatible with steel pipe. Shouldn't this be copper pipe?

This is listed as a sweat -sweat valve, so it seems this is intended for use with copper pipe. But the specifications say it is for use with steel pipe.
Asked by: RobInTucson
This is a Brass ball valve intended for use with Copper. We are in the process of updating the specifications. Thank you for your inquiry.

The valve leaks at seam at the body in two of the installs. I soldered with the valve open, and with just enough heat for the solder to flow into the joint. I changed to a different brand of ball valve and have not had any issues with leaks. I would be more than happy to accept responsibly for the leak if I had moved to a different brand and still had issues with leaks. However, other brands do not leak. This brand leaks. Everbilt should figure out why this is a problem and fix the issue.

The valve began to leak immediately at the circumference of the valve joint. This project was a full day of work involving many joints. All of the sweat solders are solidly sealed. To spend another entire day having to uninstall and replace all the fittings is extremely frustrating and even worse, extremely costly. All sweat welds were done correctly and at the proper temperature. Nothing including the valve was overheated. These everbuilt valves are poorly designed and constructed. DO NOT BUY. Beyond a waste of money. BEWARE! I feel that Everbuilt should be held financially responsible for the additional cost of time and materials. Would rate a 0 if that were an option. If anyone has a fix for this valve with it still assembled, please post.

I've installed batches of these valves without a problem including my personal home which has over 80PSI water pressure and no PRV. I suspect the negative reviews are due to user error - folks overheating the joints and cooking the o ring/gasket in the valve that holds the two pieces of the valve body together. A fix - if there is a leak at the valve body assembly you can try replacing the o ring or slathering blu block in there. Just cut one side of the pipe (the side connecting to the short section of the valve body) so you can disassemble the valve in place (cut the pipe at least a foot away from the valve so you don't risk reheating your original joint). Reassemble with a new o ring or coat the male threads with blu block. Use a slip coupling (no stop) to sweat the connection where you cut the pipe. This way you don't need to pull apart anything else. Slip couplings are lifesavers, sharkbite even makes one for tight spots where you don't want a flame. Some suggestions - when sweating joints more is not better, just get it hot enough to flow solder. If you cook the heck out of it your solder will flow like water and go through the joint leaving balls of solder in your plumbing system in addition to incinerating all of your flux. And when sweating ball valves, open the valve and remove the handle (so you don't burn the nice plastic on the lever) and sweat in the open position.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Valve body leaks The valve body leaked where it threads apart, immediately after it was installed. Duplicating the amount of effort of the job, and another trip back to the store for parts. Had to pay extra for the shark bite valve and replace the valve with the better valve.

Similar issues to others.... sweating fitting on with valve open, but after install, the seem leaked on both valves! The one I bought was the 1/2 inch (with Teflon covering the nut). I think there was a professional grade there as well but did try it since these failed and didn't want to chance going back to the same brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective Product Sounds like the other two reviewers had the same issue as I did. After I installed this valve into a water line, it immediately began to leak out of the joint jointing the two halves of the valve. None of my other solder joints leaked, and there was a lot of joints in this project. And even then, the leak was from the center of the valve not any of the solder joints. Very frustrating as I now have to rip out everything I just did and buy all new fittings...and i have to cut into the wall now all because of this defective product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible gaulity Bought 6 of these valves for water filter installations. Two were defective..one leaked a small stream from the body joint, and another leaked a few drops a minute from the body joint. Replaced with American made Apollo valves. Will never consider these imports again.

I purchased and installed 4 of the Everbilt 3/4 ball valves about 2 months ago. THE VALVES WERE OPEN DURING SWEATING . I used a benzomatic torch. I've installed ball valves this way many times with no leaks. Two of the valves began dripping from the seams about a month ago. Don't buy these valves!
