Can this be used outdoors? The material is listed as rubber, but a reviewer says it absorbs water. Does the material break down when exposed to sunlight? Also, is this the correct size for 3/4" PEX pipe?

Answer:
The pipe insulation will hold up for a while, but all pipe insulation will eventually get worn when in inclement weather and direct sunlight.
The best pipe insulation to use for this application is the Inno-Tough pipe insulation sold at select Home Depot stores. Please call your local Home Depot for pricing and availability.

Customer Reviews

Rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great for indoor pipe insulation, not outdoor The rubber is easy to cut to size and wrap around the pipe. Self-sticking works great and speeds the job. The shut off valves and pressure reducing valve were wider and required special cuts to add more width. I had to cut it just right so there was no air gap and did not pull against the seam. The drawback is that it soaks up water easily, which means the foam must be wrapped to keep moisture from rainfall or melting snow/ice out. The rubber is soft so wrapping happens once, otherwise the rubber will come off on the insulated foil when you try to unwrap it and rewrap it. December 14, 2015
