Can it be used to pump gasoline?

Want to empty an automobile gas tank. Can this pump do that? If so do you still have to use some oil first so you don't burn it up? Can you use a small amount of motor oil?
Asked by: zack
Even though there are already other answers to this question, I feel compelled also to say a resounding "NO!" since at least one person thought it was okay to do. Even if no spark is generated, it's quite possible that the pump could quickly overheat and cause a fire and/or explosion. DO NOT ATTEMPT!!!

300 GPH Drill Pump Kit is rated 2.6 out of 5 by 78.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Toy Pump This item is simply not much more than a toy.. I had a water heater that needed new elements. To empty the tank into a lift station and pumped out of the basement, I purchased and hooked up this little contraption that was to quickly pump out my water heater. Initially I had a small bit of success with the pump; however, the flow was minimal and before long, the pump went down for the count. My final solution was to simply suck on the hose and start a syphon. It worked quickly and the tank was empty in no time. DON'T buy this item unless you just want to throw your money away.

Read the instructions (prime the input line, lubricate the unit, run it in the right direction) and it should work just fine. It exceeds my expectations for a $12 tool. If you're worried about reliability, they're cheap - buy two and return either the extra one you will have, or the broken one that was defective at the start.

I wanted to use it to drain a waterbed mattress; it worked for about 30 seconds, and never again after that. Same behavior with the first unit too. Either I'm doing something wrong, or this unit is not capable of doing the job I need it to do. Either way, won't purchase again, and don't recommend it.

Bought this to pump out some remaining water in the bilge of my boat after it was pulled for winter storage. Worked great. A tually pumped faster than I expected. My only problem was the input and output hoses are coiled very tight in the box so it was difficult to straighten them for immediate use.
