The tension pin that holds the tension on the door how is it installed?

The pin is aprox 1/2" long and has a head on one side of it. I installed it with the head out but the pin seems loose until you let the spring go and it seems like it will probably hold it in place . Just want to make sure I installed right so it doesn't fall out.

It ha an Allen key that adjusts the tension and clicks and lock into the desired tension

Can it be used to keep a door open?

I have a door that I want to stay swung open most of the time. There is a slight breeze going by it that is constantly closing it and the dogs then get stuck on one side or the other when no one is home. So if these hinges can be set to hold a door open instead of closing they would work great.

No,this can not be used to keep a door open.

Prevent slamming

Does this hinge prevent a door from being slammed shut?
Asked by: FrustratedParent
This hinge is adjustable so that you can adjust the force that the hinge will have to shut the door. The hinge can be adjusted to minimal force so the door will close slowly and not slam shut.

One of the five was machined incorrectly, so that the Allen wrench key could not be inserted for spring tension adjustment. A second unit failed after 2 days (spring broke). Two of these hinges, set to max spring tension, still will not close a rather normal exterior door so that it latches closed. Too wimpy, and high early failure rate.

It was easy to install and gives me peace of mind, having the kids come through the garage to the house and know the door will shut behind them. Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My dogs are safe! I put 3 of these on my front door because people would not shut the door all the way and the wind would blow it open. Then my two precious huskies would go for a joy run around the neighborhood and cross traffic. It has decreased my anxiety levels by 95%! Great product, easy to install and fit perfectly on my door. It can easily be adjusted to how fast it will swing shut. it shuts and stays shut. I love it! Also I am not heating and cooling the neighborhood either. Oh, and I was able to install it one hinge at a time and I have had a recent spinal surgery - if that helps with knowing the ease of installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I purchased and installed two of these hinges for two separate fairly large exterior doors. Both work better than I thought they would before I opened the package. I had previously purchased another brand of similar door closing hinges at Lowe's but had to return them as they did not work. These were easy to install and work very well at least after one month of heavy usage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These saved the cat's lives The roommate kept leaving the door open, in the city. The cats would get out. I installed three of these hinges on the door, and the door now shuts on its own. The hinges matched the existing mortises in the jamb and door.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the trick I am constantly worried about the kids going in and out of the main door and they never seem to figure out how close the door behind them. I replaced one of these to the middle hinge on the main back patio door and it now closes the door enough so that it eliminates my concern of the door standing wide open for hours on end and no body is paying attention to the ice cold air pouring into the house. I am quite pleased with the result.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I wish the pin that holds the tension was easier to remove for adjustments. Once the pin was in I had to use tweezers. I was replacing old hinges so the cut outs for the hinge were already there. These were easy to install and required a power drill to attach the hinges to door. However, removing the door was made easier by having a second person tohelp

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement Hinges I had to replace the spring hinges on the fire door between my mudroom and garage as one of the springs broke after 17 years. These fit the radius of the mortise perfectly, matched the finish of the original, and are the wind and put in the pin type of spring, which is what the original were. They work great, the door operates as good as new. I did have to drill a few new holes as the original hinges were a different screw hole pattern, but that was a very simple task with the right tools. Ordering online was very simple, and in-store pickup a breeze. Overall very pleased with purchase.
