I found no weight information on this set. The track is quite sturdy and if you mount the track with all the included screws, you should have no problem supporting the doors.

Maybe, I would beef up the header & use different, heavier duty screws. But the rail itself is very sturdy.

Answer:
Yes it can. It can also accommodate an opening that is wider than the track is long as long as the rollers are placed inboard from the edge of the door far enough so they don't exit the track before the door comes to rest against the jamb.

Can I use this with older doors that currently run on a bottom track? They are light hollow doors.

Is there something about doors that run on a bottom track that makes them unable to be outfitted with a top track only system like this? I really like the look of not having a bottom track running along my nice new floor. It seems like my handyman doesn't think I can do this and I just am not understanding what is different about the doors as we have another set of doors same size that are running on a top track only and I don't see what is different about them.

There is nothing that would prevent this from replacing a bottom track setup. Simply mount the upper track, remove the existing bottom track, mount the wheels on the doors as per the instructions in the package. If the doors being hollow core have to be cut the inner frame of the door may have to be reworked. This isn't a big deal but does require some knowledge and time. Since time is money your handyman may be thinking the cost in labor would make it not worthwhile. If you have the tools and the ability to modify the doors, then certainly, this can be done. Answer:
I would say it is possible, If the top of the door is solid enough to screw into . Also you might have to shim up the bottom guide to keep the doors from swinging in and out if the doors are too short, or shim the track down possibly. I think it can be done but there will be some fiddling around necessary to make it work.

As long as the doors meet the requirements for the Sliding Door Set there is no reason why you cannot use this system - doors with a thickness of 3/4 - 1-3/8 in. each, that weigh up to 60 lb. total

The stated channel opening is listed as 1 3/8 maximum when in fact the actual opening is 1 2/8. The existing doors that I have are indeed 1 3/8 and will not fit inside the tack that I just purchased. Is there a slightly larger size (1 3/8) that I can purchase?

There are two pairs of rollers in this set. They don't have the same offset. When facing the track from the side that the doors are hung, the door which has the rollers with the shallow offset must be hung in the rail that is furthest away from you. The door which has the rollers with the deep offset must be hung in the rail that is nearest to you. the guide which mounts to the floor has several cutouts so that the guide can accommodate various door thicknesses. Make sure that you mount the rollers to the doors in pairs. Don't mix them up. When hanging the doors in the rails, hang the door with the shallow offset rollers first. It goes in the rail furthest away from you. When hanging the door in the rail nearest to you, someone will have to hold the door that is already hung at an angle away from you at the bottom so that the door can be hung in the rail that is nearest to you. Once both doors are in their track and hanging vertically push them both to one side or the other. slide the bottom guide under both doors selecting the openings for the nylon guides that best accommodate your doors, make sure that the doors are vertically aligned with the door frame, where you want them and attach the guide to the floor with the screws provided. Pull each door against the jamb where it will rest in the closed position and adjust the rollers up or down to make the door edge parallel to the jamb. Do this for both doors. Keep in mind that unless the two sides of the opening are parallel to one another and perpendicular to the header where the rail is mounted they will not close flush to both sides of the opening. So in effect you will have a right and a left door. I hope this helps. Read Less

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great replacment hardware for an old sliding door set upi I used this set up to replace a 30 year old sliding door set up and it was very straightforward. The quality of the slides is average and I do not anticipate any issue with longevity. My door track was straight and free of nicks so the hardware fit with no issues. The jamb I was installing this set up in was a bit smaller and I had to cut the track. you can do this a lot of different ways. I chose to cut it with a hacksaw and was able to make a nice straight cut. I cleaned up the edges with a file and it was ready to go. the track mounts right to the header with screws a nd the rollers attach to the back side of the doors. it really is a simple do it yourself jib and I had no issues. I would recommend this product. April 29, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Be sure to read instructions carefully. Item 7 I used this set to replace my old set which had a damaged track due to mal adjusted doors and off track episodes with jamming by previous owner which caused dents in the track which I was unable to fix. The track in this kit was 58.5 inches which required no cutting to fit my finished opening of 58.75. The instructions are vague when it comes to describing the hangers. Unlike my old set, this set has two different "offset" measurements. Be sure to read item 7 of the instructions. The hangers with the 7/16" offset must be mounted on the door which will install first nearest the inside of the close. VERY IMPORTANT STEP. The adjustable hangers made squaring the doors to the edge quite easy. I now have a nice smooth operating bypass door set on my closet. No more "bumpity bump". October 19, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Everbilt, you suck. I have no problem with the overall quality of this product. BUT, as an amateur carpenter/DIYer, I absolutely hate it when there's a BIG mistake in the instructions like this one. I spent 2 days installing these doors, convinced I was doing something wrong before I came to the Home Depot site to see if I bought the wrong thing. Low and behold, I was not the only one whose doors would not pass each other & I ended up scratching my doors trying to force them to fit. This could be such an easy fix for this company, but no. Read the other reviews for advice on how to remedy the bi-pass issue. Hopefully it won't suck up 2 days of your holiday weekend! Now to go try to fix the damage.... May 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great replacement sliding door set This was pretty easy to install, just make sure that you measure the thickness of the closet doors first, and follow the directions for that thickness. I particularly like the adjustable cams that allow you to quickly and easily adjust the doors vertical alignment. April 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid product, easy install I didnt have a issue with the directions as others did. But I can see how that detail could be overlooked. So I do agree, pay attention to the directions. Rollers with bigger off set go on the door on the back. But outside of that I had this whole thing up and running in less than a hour. My opening was like 65inches. I was worried this would be too short. But it worked perfectly. February 28, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer Beware Instructions are OK until you reach #7 & #8 roller hanger instructions. Scratch your head on these two and save yourself frustration by reaching over and grabbing a pack of extra hanger wheels. The two different sizes provided for two two different thickness of door just won't fit. Period! So save yourself an extra trip to HD, grab those wheels right away and off you go. After that, the rest works good. Like the ease of adjustment. January 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely simple This was very easy to install. I had to add a 1x to each side of the opening to use 30" hollow core doors since the opening was too wide. Marked the location of the top track, placed two small globs of hot melt glue on the track and pressed in place with an equal space at both ends. drilled pilot holes for all the screw and ran them in with a cordless drill. Took longer for the glue gun to warm up than it did to install the track. The rollers were just as easy to install on the doors. After the doors were hung on the track it was simple to attach the guide to the floor. the sides of the opening were not parallel nor perpendicular to the header but the rollers provided ample adjustment for the doors to close flush. The cut off dimensions on the instruction sheet were just right. I didn't use the finger pulls because I opted for a recessed latch mechanism so the doors could be secured. Since I had to cut 4" inches off the hollow core doors I had to make new bottoms for the doors from pieces of scrap 2x4"s cut to fit length x 1-1/8, thick, glued into the bottom of the hollow doors. Clamped, allowed to dry and wallah. I was going to buy the more expensive hardware kit at first but this item was a real bargain and worked out great. January 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fit like a glove and work very well. I bought this slide to replace what was probably the original slide installed when the house was built. Perfect fit and the door never worked better. Great buy. December 29, 2015
