Photo shows a pair of safety cables (that run through the middle of the extension springs to prevent injury when the springs break). But description says "Winds and unwinds onto a cable drum via a torsion spring to raise and lower the garage door".

So what are these? Safety Cables? or Torsion Spring Cables?

Answer:
First of all this is the wrong cable for the door opening one(goes around pulley) 3/32 dia. is the one you need. But if you want to use the one you have take your vise grip pliers and hold loop smaller and wrap electicl tape(alot of wraps to hold) to your smaller loop.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.1 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by EJL2000 was 100% correct This is not a safety cable!!!!. This is the primary cable used to raise/lower the door. Safety cables are the back-up cables threaded theough the spring that ensure the spring won't kill someone when it inevitably fails. April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Quality - Easy To Install A must as far as safety measures for your garage door. Easy to install and universal! July 23, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 8 foot, well really 8' 8" but worked fine. Replaced old worn-out torsion-spring cables with this set. The old cables were 8' 4", and 8' 6", possibly from stretching but more likely from one having been replaced at some point. Calculated it out and figured 8' replacement cables would be best. Thing is, these cables, although listed on the website as 8' cables, turned out to be a set of 2, 8' 8" cables (same SKU number, slightly different model number). Thankfully, when I got them home, 8'8" worked perfectly. Another couple of inches would have been too long for the grooved pulley. This was an old door, probably about 60 years, so those of you with similar old pulleys take heart: the 8'8" length should work okay. Used youtube and internet for installation instructions -- the printed instructions that came with this pair of cables were for an entirely different door design, but the cables worked great. This would have been a 5 star review except for the miss-labeling on the website. Bottom line: this kit contains 2 8' 8" cables, NOT 8' cables, but they worked fine for my old garage door system. Much smoother, quieter than the old, worn-out pulleys and since they're of matched length, hopefully they won't jump the track in a few months like the old ones did. May 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exact Fit, Instructions, Not So Much... This item is perfect... But only if you know exactly what you want! I was looking for the cables that wind on the torsion drum for my two car garage door. My old ones slipped off the drum and sheared off, leaving the door all askew. I needed a pair of cables to restring the door. This PAIR of cables are an EXACT FIT, at 8' 8", requiring only minor adjustment in leveling the door in the tracks. They went on easy, and following a couple videos on YouTube for little tricks, the whole job took maybe an hour. Greased everything up, and back in business, quieter than ever! I gave poor marks for appearance because of the lack of instructions AND the fact that I bought too many. The packaging does not show multiple installation types, rather only depicting the old style overhead spring type door, not current torsion rod overhead roll up doors. I will keep the extra pair as back up... Roll on door, roll on... December 28, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cable end failed Cables were inexpensive, easy to install but the end link came off after a week of use causing the door to become stuck/crooked in the frame. I do not recommend this product. November 23, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Incorrect Item Description and PDF Instructions The description is for door cables with torsion springs running through the pulley. What we are looking for and what the directions describe are SAFETY CABLES to run through the EXTENSION springs to secure it in case of a failure! March 20, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for my old door This was just the ticket. It does wind around a cable drum and fits perfectly in the notch of the drum. It was easy to install and is a good price. August 23, 2013
