Customer Questions & Answers

Photo contradicts Description

Photo shows a pair of safety cables (that run through the middle of the extension springs to prevent injury when the springs break). But description says "Winds and unwinds onto a cable drum via a torsion spring to raise and lower the garage door". So what are these? Safety Cables? or Torsion Spring Cables?

The loop is too big for the bottom bracket latch. It slips right off. Is there another size that i need and where can i find it?

The loop on my old cable is almost half the size.

These cables worked perfectly for my 7 ft garage door even though the loops were larger than what I replaced. You don't need to tape the loops or anything - just make sure your garage door has the right amount of tension. There's plenty of info about this on the web, but basically you either use vise grips to slightly turn the bar and loop back over the wheel, or to loosen the screws and adjust the wheel itself. I replaced the jacked up cable in the attached image with the part listed here.

Most residential garage doors are 7 foot high will this cable still work for 7 foot door.

Asked by: mike
Just replaced the cables on a 7' door and these worked fine without any adjustments or alterations; these cables were about an inch longer than the originals.

Product does not match instructions in its own package. The insert shows a cable with a bracket at the end to bolt to the frame support. This actually has a loop on one end and a large cylindrical piece of metal at the end. This is not easy to install as a safety cable. I guess I should have spent the extra penny and purchased http://www.homedepot.com/p/IDEAL-Security-Garage-Door-Safety-Cables-2-Pack-SK7136/203468168 which includes the bolts too. Too bad I had to open the package before I could see this is the wrong thing.
