I have a double door and a spring broke. The existing spring has light blue coloring on the end. According to the documentation that I've seen this coloring is for a 90# single door or 190# double. I found a pair in the store that show light blue, 90#. I don't think I'd use these. Is there a light blue 190# available?
Asked by: ColorConfused
Hi ColorConfused, unfortunately we do not offer a light blue 190# on Homedepot.com. However, we do offer alternative extension springs options that may suit your needs. Please review the items at the link I have provided below: http://www.homedepot.com/b/N-5yc1v/Ntk-All/Ntt-everbilt%2BExtension%2BSprings%2B?NCNI-5 We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Does the weight rating assume using four springs?

My garage door, which weighs 90 lbs, has one spring on each side. When one spring broke I replaced it with one spring of a 90 lb set, meaning to replace the other old spring with the second one of the pair. The combination of one old spring and one new spring does not support the door. I have no hardware to fit two parallel springs. Should I buy a pair of, say, 160 lb springs and fit one at each side of the door? Shouldn't the product documentation make it clearer whether the weight rating applies to two or four springs per door?
Asked by: Confused
The TWO springs are rated for a door that weighs 90lbs. It also recommends on the package replacing BOTH springs when replacing one (which is why we sell as a set!). You shouldn’t use a spring that is heavier than the door as it won’t work. We recommend seeking the help of a professional garage door repair company if you are unsure what to use to balance the door.

Does the diameter of the springs matter?

The 110 lb springs are too strong. The door will not stay closed when they are installed. The 90 lb springs are of a smaller inside and outside diameter than the original ones were. Actually, what would probably be perfect would be 100 lb but you don't sell that kind.
Asked by: Steve
The diameter of the spring isn't as important as the strength. The spring matches the weight of the door. If you are unsure as to the weight of your door then you should seek the help of a professional who can weigh the door and ensure you have the correct springs. Installing the wrong spring can lead to door and/or opener damage. Thanks, Stuart MAT Customer Care

Garage door Springs.

I have been to the Home Depot 3 times today to buy Garage Door Springs. I have tried the 130 lbs 110 lbs and now the 90lb. Nothing is working, the springs will not pull up the garage door. I have a man here who fixes garage doors, and he too is at a loss. What's the problem? CP
Asked by: piggy
Garage springs will only operate correctly when matched to the weight of the door. Have a garage door repair professional weigh the door and then determine which spring is needed. It sounds like you need a spring stronger than 130lbs if your door won't open with the springs connected or if you are using an automatic garage door opener there may be an issue with the opener. The instructions were complete and my door works much better now. However, I did have to remove (dremel tool) part of the loop on one end to make them fit my existing mounting bracket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Qualifying the right spring for your door Having a single door with 110 lbs on it when I purchased the house. They never looked as if they were matched to the door. So when one reached its lifespan and broke, I decided to replace with like strength. Had problems from the start with the door reversing, not going down all the way, and flailed cables. Return them for 90 lb springs that, by appearance and size wise fit better. In other words, they match the door. By the way, the originals never had safety cables. Unit ran smoother, however, would not rise above 16 inches. One can get pretty frustrated by this point, Final resolution adjusted the torque on the back of the opener itself one knotch. works great. Point being, if you get frustrated quickly, hire someone. Now, who does the counting of cycle to determine when 10,000 cycles are up???

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the same as the original! I purchased these springs thinking I would save a few bucks over the other hardware box store. I matched up the color to the existing springs and even weighed my garage door just to make sure I got the right size (88lbs). When I installed these springs, I noticed they were thinner than the ones I was replacing, but same light blue blue color. Once installed, I tested the door and it about destroyed it. I went to the other hardware box store, picked up their 90lbs, light blue springs and they were an identical match to the original. I installed them and the door functioned the way it was supposed to. If you do use these, I would just be careful with these and try to match size and not so much the color.
