Do I need to drill a hole to the stud first?

Do I need to drill a hole into the stud first? If yes, what is size of hole need to be pre-drilled?
Asked by: WL
It would help to put in small pilot hole, but the wood I had was soft enough for me to screw in by hand

Can I install it on a conrete wall?

Asked by: velascomike
I would not recommend screwing this threaded hook into a concrete wall. It is best used for a hanging weighted item as dead weight pulling down vs. at a 90 degree. Now if you need to hang a bike on a concrete wall then you should consider screwing into the concrete wall a wooden ledger board (2x4 / 2x6 or 3/4"or thicker plywood) running across the wall that a wall style hook can be drilled into. Wall hooks cost 3 to 10 times more than ceiling hooks but may give you some benefits of adding a security chain or cable or a hook that is no higher than 6 feet off the floor (7ft if you stagger two bike rows).

what size and type of screw is recommended to use to mount a 2 x 6 wood beam into the concrete, so you could use these bike screws on a concrete wall? thanks in advance.

Purchased a few of these to hang our luggage up in basement from the beams. Since our basement is unfinished, I screwed four of these into the visible beams and made quick project to clear up some floor space. The angle at the end of the hangar was ok to hold the luggage handles securely. An inexpensive solution for us

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bike hooks are for in-ceiling My family has used these hooks for years and years. We have them on the garage wall for lawn chairs and other things. As far as bicycles, those are to be hung from the ceiling. Previous reviewer was having trouble because they weren't installing the hooks in the right place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Bicycles, lawn spreader, yard cart/wagon I have three bikes hanging from these hooks. Two I have hanging by both of the wheels and the third I have hanging by the front wheel and the rear tire resting against the wall. I also have my spreader on another and I have two holding my yard cart by the rear axle. It would be great to get a child's wagon up off the floor. I used them in the past to hold my surf boards and with the rubber coating it didn't scratch or crack the fiberglass boards. The bullet points in the description says without additional tools, but I highly suggest drilling a pilot hole, and a long screwdriver or piece of pipe to help screw the hanger into the wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent for any size bike I have been using these in my garage to hang bikes from the cieling for over 30 years. I have at least 10 bikes hanging off these right now. They are all hanging off 1 wheel. I had both my 40 year old daughter's and my 31 year old son's first bikes hanging off these, and now my daughter's kids are riding them. I have a Tag-a-long bike, a 3 speed bike, and a couple of multispeed speed bikes hanging off these. I had my high school 5 speed bike hanging up there and last year took it down and rebuilt it as a single speed bike. I also had a Raliegh Chopper from my childhood days hanging off one of these that my son recently reconditioned and rides on the boardwalk near his house. I am in the process of installing more for my newer bikes. These are great and at this price a better overhead bike support can't be found. (installation note: predrill or drive in and remove a pilot nail first - use a long screwdriver as a hool to assist turning the hook.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality! I installed these into a 2X4 and then to my garage wall (my beams are oddly spread apart). The hooks are high quality and the rubber coating is great for protecting my bike's wheels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfectly I'm using a pair of these hangers for a 400w hood lamp and they're exactly what I need. They handle the weight great and allow me to hang the power chord and extra rope in addition to the pulley. Make sure you measure out the desired location for the hangers first. :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Upper End of Bike Hooks - Until Cover Comes Off In my day job, I design commuter bike parking rooms and outfit parking garages for developers. I have been using about 10 of these hooks for about 3 years at home. I bought them to "upgrade" from my older vinyl dipped hooks ( I still use the older hooks for wheels and other bikes in deep storage). The plus: they are often a larger hook (larger wheels or ease of loading) and can offer more protection from rim scratching. The negative: I just noticed the foam has started to shred on the hooks most in use (thus worse protection than the older style hooks). They still are great value if lightly used or if you are looking for a more 'polished' urban hip bike room with black hooks vs. the more common grey or red hooks.
