Ours wouldn't stay closed. It was perfectly level. We kept adjusting the screws up and down the rail until it would open and close correctly.

CAN A LONGER MOUNTING SPACER BE ORDERED TO EXTEND TRACK FURTHER FROM WALL??

Asked by: MIKE
A header board is recommended above the door to mount the top bar. Use a thicker board there to space the sliding door further from the wall.

Please look closely at the manufacturer-provided pictures here that depict a close-up of the product installed and holding a door, as this pic is a completely misleading computer generated image. It does not accurately represent where the door will be versus the bar. Instead of being suspended under the roller bar, the door is actually offset OUTWARD by about an inch. This offset is forced by the non-adjustable spacers that are 1" thick between the rollers and the vertical straps that connect the rollers to the door. If you think about it, because of those spacers (which are not removable) there is simply no way the door hangs under the bar as shown in the pic. Instead, it sits "proud" of the bar by a distance that is equivalent to how much those spacers stick out beyond the rollers. This is completely misleading, and if I had known the truth, I'd have purchased a different model, saving myself a bunch of extra work, which is outlined below. Since the mounts on the bar are not 16" on center, I was required to install a header board so that I could transmit the load carrying of the bar back to the wall studs. I knew this on the way in, and I am not complaining about the need for a header. I did this per the instructions, suggesting a 1 x board (3/4" thick painted Maple in my case). Note that when you do this, because of the way the whole system mounts, your door will get further away from the wall by whatever the thickness of your header board. So, to jump to the punch line a little bit -- I installed the door (1-3/8" thick) as per the instructions, including the header board, and wound up with a gap of approximately 1-3/4" inches between the door frame trim and the door itself. This was completely unacceptable. It looked ridiculous. So, I set about making mods to get the gap back down to something that would be reasonable. This included: -- Replacing the Acorn nuts on the back side of the door with a T-nut and cutting/grinding the bolts down so they didn't protrude beyond the surface of the door (good luck finding that metric T-nut). Without doing this, you are limited to how close you can go by the head of the acorn nut, which projects toward the door trim. -- Cutting (and then contour grinding to match the bar profile) the stand-offs that carry the screws from the bar to that wall. By doing this, I was able to bring the bar about 7/8" closer to the wall). -- Finally I was forced to put a 20 degree bend (away from the direction of the wall) in the straps that connect the door to the rollers. This was no small task as those are some beefy pieces of stainless steel. I couldn't have done it without a big, well anchored vice and some tools that gave me LOTS of leverage. As it was it still took some doing to get it right. By doing all of the above work (which took an extra 3 hours of mods and various trial fits even after the t-nuts arrived) I was able to get the door-to-door trim clearance down to an acceptable 1/2" - 5/8". All of this work could have been eliminated had the company: 1. Included T-nuts instead of Acorn Nuts and adjust the bolt sizes to fully recess the bolts on that side of the door--or include a different retainer design to put the acorn nuts on the outside of the door--as other designs do. 2. Provided a set of stubby stand-offs for the people who are going to be forced to use a header board. 3. Designed the roller - strap spacer into multiple spacers such that the amount of spacing could be adjusted as needed to accommodate desired/required spacing adjustments between the door and the door frame. So, overall, I like the look of the hardware, but if I had known then what I know now, I would have purchased a completely different set that would have allowed me to get the look I wanted without relying on my engineering degree and 4 hours of spare time that I didn't really have. Other than all of that, it's perfect!!! <eye roll here> Bill

I built a rustic barn style door to match the feature wall , the hardware worked well. My disapointment with it was that it did not include any handles or knobs which isn't a big deal but for what it costs it should have. Afterwards I starting looking on Amazon and found the same kits for a third of the price! They look exactly the same with a different brand name. Oh and its really black not oil rubbed bronze. Good product but way over priced for what it is, shop around first!

Regular doors are fine but there are times that a sliding door is perfect. Love the color of the hardware. The operation is very quiet. You must make sure it is level. I did a double french door with this (2 kits). One door is perfect. The other is slightly off and will slowly close. No big deal where these are though. The only thing I can say negative is that there is not an option for matching door handle hardware. I am going to adapt some gate handles to use.

It's unfortunate that as others have posted (so I was warned beforehand) the instructions are wrong! Says to install the track "door height plus 1-3/8" above floor. Whoever wrote this forgot the 1/2 in clearance below the door. The instructions should say "door height plus 1-7/8 above floor". But if you mount the hangers on the door first, and then position the door bottom 1/2 in above the floor, then position the track it will be at the right height. The door (a barn door from home depot) looks great with this hardware. The hardware would have been five stars if the instructions had been correct.

It looks great worked great however 4 months after it was in operations I noticed the anchor bolts were loose and the door was starting to drop. It turns out the anchor spacers that come with the unit (about 3/4" dia) were digging into the drywall and when tightened they went in deeper into the drywall and made the problem worst. To remedy this I purchased 1/2" SS fender washers to place between dry wall and anchor spacers along with new 4" screws. Working well now. I hope it last. Disappointed in the product from this perspective.

It was exactly what we wanted and it worked great. It is smooth and quite. It has good coloring as well. All the parts are solid and do not seem cheaply made. The directions are easy to follow. I suggest that you read through everything first before you start. But that is a good plan for most things that you need directions for.

We bought two of these systems and built two "barn doors" to cover a wall mounted Flat screen TV recessed into the wall. The product is great and easy to install as long as you are very careful with dimensions for mounting them. The only criticism I have is that the packaging and handling at Home Depot was terrible. The packaging of both sets were torn and ripped when I picked them up. One set had missing parts which I suspect fell out somewhere in the warehouse. I had to take it back and pick up another set being very careful to examine the replacement package (which was also torn and ripped - so I made the store open the package so I could take inventory of all the parts - glad I did because the package was missing parts - we got another package - also torn and ripped - and did the same inventory - all good this time) We love the product. Great design and works like a charm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do not use power tools to titren bolts. Excellent product at a very reasonable price, it is very important to have the bolts go into studs or place a board behind the entire bar for additional support. do not over tighten the bolts because they will push the door spacer into the drywall. the top bar must be perfectly level or else the door will slide to one side or the other. as you tighten one bolt check for level and keep checking it for level after each bolt. it is a good idea to have another person helping you when installing this product. the description says that it is bronze color however it is more like black in color. The instructions are very easy to understand and they MUST be read before installing the sliding door hardware. great product I would recommend this to anyone looking to add a rustic country look to their home. ( I take time to do product reviews after every major purchase , help keep me doing them by rating my review) hope this review was helpful.
