Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fatally flawed There is a major problem with this latch. The part that swings up to release the gate, when in the latched position, protrudes just a little bit in front of the back of the channel that the rod fits into. Hopefully that makes sense. What it means is that if you bump or shake the rod back and forth in the latch, it can strike the back of the swinging latch arm and knock it open, meaning that if you shake the gate just right (it's not that hard), it will spontaneously open. It cannot be trusted to be secure against the wind, a dog, or the ill intentioned person. This problem could be easily resolved with a redesign placing the pivot point higher, or ensuring the notch for the rod in the latch body is shallower than the notch in the swing arm, so the rod can't "bump" it open. It may work for you fine, but if it has to be 100% reliable, look elsewhere.
