Product Overview

The Recessed Dryer Vent Box allows the dryer to be pushed up against the wall of the laundry room instead of having to be positioned 5 in. to 6 in. away in order to accommodate the dryer duct. The box also completely protects the duct from being crushed. When using this product lint build-up is minimized due to the limited kinks and bends.

  • Made of high impact polystyrene (UL94HB rated)
  • Has a built in draft blocker to help reduce cold air back-draft into the home
  • Oval to round duct adapter threads easily onto duct, making installation fast and easy
  • Can be used with both gas and electric dryers

Recessed Dryer Vent Box is rated 2.1 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible design, even more poorly made. Theres nothing good about this thing. It deserves zero stars. I accidentally bought two because they came in one box. Even with 2 I couldn't get enough of the cheap little flimsy brackets to not break to come up with 1 complete unit. When I finally built a box of 2x4's to hold it in place long enough to get it hooked up the cheap flimsy plastic the hose connects to leaked so much hot air that it turned the laundry room into a sauna. I ended up tearing the whole thing out, installing it in the garbage where it belongs, and going back with a traditional unit. Oh, and if you install it right behind the dryer it ends up putting more of a kink in the hose than a regular slightly offset mount does. Complete waste of money.

The first one I bought cracked and the whole corner broke off when I attempted to snap one of the mounting wings on ! The second one had parts missing. I had to put the two together to get one. Also, the price ($29 +) is a little crazy when you consider the lack of quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice It is handy to have this but the way the outside cover fits on is not the best. It barely holds on so I added some white screws to secure it to the wall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Little tricky but does the job A little pricey for what it really is, just some plastic parts. However not too many options and i wanted a finished look on the inside of my laundry room, not just a hose through a wall. Tabs went in just fine, needed some force but even still, my hands were enough to get them snapped in place. Then was a matter of figuring height off the floor needed to use the ducting I had. Screwed in no problem, I did remove the damper door in the ducting, no need in my opinion and something to potentially catch lint. Your ducting can be compressed into an oval to fit the top of the box. Just use some ducting tape at the back - i had a slight leak back there using just a hose clamp but once taped and clamped it sealed up nicely.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Everything about this is bad I bought one of these for a new laundry room build. I liked the idea of a recessed dryer vent because the space is tight and I have room in the wall. My problem with this box is in addition to the ones I read about here. I got the tabs attached using bar clamps and installed the box in the wall. The problem came when fitting the flattened 4 inch duct onto the top of the box. The duct created some pressure on the flimsy duct opening so the opening deforms. Sadly, when the duct opening deforms, the little plastic flapper valve stops working and gets stuck either open or closed. This little flap is super flimsy and my first one broke while I was removing the tape that holds it in place. The replacement worked only until the duct was attached to the box. Now I have to decide if I want to try some other duct solution instead of rigid pipe, or if I want to just remove that flap and put one someplace else, or if I want to scrap the whole thing and try something different. It is unfortunate that the reputation of a remodeler can hinge on something as stupid as a dryer vent box, but it happens. Sadly, this is a case of Home Depot not paying attention and continueing to sell a really poor product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh For those having problems attaching straps: 1. Lay it on it's back 2. Take a strap, get it lined up with the notch and give i light taps and slowly drive it in, the weight of the hammer should almost be sufficient to gently guide it in. Pros: Dresses the room up Cons: 1. Mine came with only two straps... 2. Flimsy as others have stated - too flimsy for my taste. 3. While the oval recessed vent is nice, you have to find an elbow or something to go in your wall if you need to go around the top plate of a wall.. GLHF with that. 4. The collar for mounting the duct to is mounted separately and can leak if the box is mounted with a small angle to the duct - sealing the duct to the box with tape is a MUST to prevent air leaking behind your wall.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from poor design details This was a good concept, but poorly executed. The plastic anchor tabs are too thick to easily snap into place on the box and therefore must be sanded or filed to fit and hammered into position with a rubber mallet. Also the tabs are positioned too far forward resulting in the duct interfering with the drywall. Its therefore necessary to cut 1/4 inch recessed notches in the adjoining studs to receive the tabs & provide enough clearance between the duct and surrounding drywall. .
