Product Overview

The Recessed Dryer Vent Box allows the dryer to be pushed up against the wall of the laundry room instead of having to be positioned 5 in. to 6 in. away in order to accommodate the dryer duct. The box also completely protects the duct from being crushed. When using this product lint build-up is minimized due to the limited kinks and bends.

  • Made of high impact polystyrene (UL94HB rated)
  • Has a built in draft blocker to help reduce cold air back-draft into the home
  • Oval to round duct adapter threads easily onto duct, making installation fast and easy
  • Can be used with both gas and electric dryers

Answer:
Yes, but you must remove the backdraft damper (it works only if positioned on top). personally, I'd reccommend using the damper in top position anyway...it runs the risk of eventually jamming from lint build-up.

Answer:
This box can be installed upside down to vent down towards the basement. However, the in wall duct would then need to be coming up from the floor. Also it would be important to remove the damper flap in the oval to round duct connector is using in this fashion, before installation, as this damper will not function properly upside.

how do I purchase only the round to oval duct adapter part in this kit?

I keep being told you only sell the kit. I only need one part in the kit, part 3, the round to oval duct adapter. Part 3 does work for my dryer. I am trying to prevent wasting the other 3 parts and not pay $30 for an entire kit I do not need. Help.

Answer:
Unfortunately at this time the only available option is to purchase the whole kit. At a later date HD may start carrying just the oval to round connector piece

Recessed Dryer Vent Box is rated 2.1 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Little tricky but does the job A little pricey for what it really is, just some plastic parts. However not too many options and i wanted a finished look on the inside of my laundry room, not just a hose through a wall. Tabs went in just fine, needed some force but even still, my hands were enough to get them snapped in place. Then was a matter of figuring height off the floor needed to use the ducting I had. Screwed in no problem, I did remove the damper door in the ducting, no need in my opinion and something to potentially catch lint. Your ducting can be compressed into an oval to fit the top of the box. Just use some ducting tape at the back - i had a slight leak back there using just a hose clamp but once taped and clamped it sealed up nicely.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from poor design details This was a good concept, but poorly executed. The plastic anchor tabs are too thick to easily snap into place on the box and therefore must be sanded or filed to fit and hammered into position with a rubber mallet. Also the tabs are positioned too far forward resulting in the duct interfering with the drywall. Its therefore necessary to cut 1/4 inch recessed notches in the adjoining studs to receive the tabs & provide enough clearance between the duct and surrounding drywall. .

I bought it because it was the only one Home Depot had, but it's going back. The tabs and video are for new construction. No instructions with the unit at all. The video shows a 4" duct fitting easily over the oval port. Not so unless HD's pipe is off dimension. Did not include tabs or screws for retrofit into existing dry wall. Tried to see if I could make it work, but finally decided it wasn't worth the effort. Going to Lowe's now to get an aluminum model.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Buy Plastic straps that u had to secure to the wall wouldn't stay clipped to unit during insulation and one of them broke. The picture and description makes u think your 4" dryer hose will fasten onto outlet....only when secured with foil tape.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recessed Dryer Vent Box By adding this Vent Box I was able to move my daughter-in-law's drier back enough to put an accordion type door in front of her laundry area without blocking the entry way into the mud room.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Everything about this is bad I bought one of these for a new laundry room build. I liked the idea of a recessed dryer vent because the space is tight and I have room in the wall. My problem with this box is in addition to the ones I read about here. I got the tabs attached using bar clamps and installed the box in the wall. The problem came when fitting the flattened 4 inch duct onto the top of the box. The duct created some pressure on the flimsy duct opening so the opening deforms. Sadly, when the duct opening deforms, the little plastic flapper valve stops working and gets stuck either open or closed. This little flap is super flimsy and my first one broke while I was removing the tape that holds it in place. The replacement worked only until the duct was attached to the box. Now I have to decide if I want to try some other duct solution instead of rigid pipe, or if I want to just remove that flap and put one someplace else, or if I want to scrap the whole thing and try something different. It is unfortunate that the reputation of a remodeler can hinge on something as stupid as a dryer vent box, but it happens. Sadly, this is a case of Home Depot not paying attention and continueing to sell a really poor product.
