Customer Questions & Answers

Does galvanized steel hold up better than solid brass?

Asked by: OldHomeFixer
Probably not - galvanized steel rusts, brass doesn't.

The instructions are too small for me to see. How do I put it together?

No question about the two bolts, but where do the four rubber and four metal washers and four nuts go?
Asked by: Scotty
It's very simple - One rubber washer goes on the bolt then you push it through the tank. Attack the second rubber washer followed by a metal washed and a nut. The other metal washer and nut go on after you place the tank on the bowl to hold it in place.

Can this bolt kit be used for glacier toilet tank

Asked by: Barb
This is a generic kit designed to be used on tanks and bowls with two holes. If you have three holes, buy another kit and you'll have one bolt and hardware left over.

Wrong picture on package and different directions given?

The wording on the instructions for the kit seem to be correct but the picture is definitely for the BOWL TO FLOOR package, which is SKU 097, I think. Also not clear is the fact that you attach a nut directly on the outside of the tank with no washer? (According to the package, which I re-read through, you put the rubber washer inside the tank and the first nut and metal washer outside the tank.) Then you use the second set of metal and rubber washers per bolt on the outside of the bowl? The Toto toilet I am replacing this on just used one rubber washer inside the tank, no nuts in the middle, and a metal washer and nut on the outside of the bowl.
Asked by: Jacob
Some installers only use one nut. This is better because it is less likely to leak. I bought this set because the ones that came with a float and flapper valve kit only had one rubber washer and I could not get one bolt to stop leaking. The sequence is rubber washer on bolt inside the tank, rubber washer, metal washer and nut on bottom of tank, metal washer and nut to secure the tank to the bowl.

I have done 3 installs using this exact gasket kit. Install is very easy. Seals the tank nicely. The only hard part ,was removing the old rusty nuts and bolts.

If you follow the instructions exactly you end up with 2 extra metal and 2 extra rubber washers. The instructions only say to use 1 rubber washer inside the tank and 1 metal washer just outside the tank on each bolt. I used the extra rubber washers between the tank and toilet and I used the extra metal washers before the last nut underneath the tank. I think this will provide a better fit and reduce the chances of tightening the nuts too tight.

After 2 days discovered they are rusting. Removing and looking for something that will not rust. The rubber was also thin and a slight movement of take to adjust it from leaning let the washer and nut cause a crack in the rubber washer. Starting leaking again. I just wanted to get my toilet to not leak. Now for more work.

Also for beginner, instructions could be better, explicitly explaining assembly order and placement of washers and nuts--e.g. rubber washer inside tank; rubber washer, metal washer and nut outside tank; once assembled, place tank on bowl; metal washer and (wing) nut under bowl.

Bought a set today because bolts that came with a kit I purchased to replace the float and flapper valve (at another store) did not have but one rubber washer and the tank was leaking around one of the bolts. This kit was easy to install and it stopped the leak. I am completely satisfied.

The head on the bolt is 10/16" and while this satisfies the fit through rubber washer it would secure much better if it were 13/16" to more adequately prevent a leak. Also the bolt I used from this package began to rust in the tank within two months.
