yes, I have used these hooks for years and as long as you screw them into a solid base (floor joist or stud) they are awesome!

Answer:
Hi eddie,
Thanks for visiting our site!
I am an avid bicyclist with thirteen bikes. All of my bikes are stored in my garage, hanging on these very hooks.
Be sure to screw the hook directly into the solid wood of the ceiling joist for proper support.
I pre-drilled the joist for the screw hole with a 1/4'' drill bit to prevent splitting.
Thank you for asking,
-Travis

Answer:
It is not a requirement, but I have used these for years and have found that if you drill a 1/4 inch pilot hole it keeps the joist from splitting.

Answer:
SCREW PORTION IS ABOUT 1-1/2". THE HOOK IS 4-1/2". THIS HOOK WOULD BE RATHER LARGE, BUT YES IT WOULD HOLD A 1" CURTAIN ROD. THESE HOOKS ARE VERY STURDY. FOR THE MONEY YOU CAN'T GO WRONG.

Hi atl123,
I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site.
The threaded portion of this hook is one and one quarter inches long.
The hook portion is five inches long, from the end of the threads to the bottom of the hook. All of that portion is coated.
Yes, it will easily hold a one inch curtain rod.
Thank you for asking,
-Travis

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just great These things work great IF you screw them into solid wood. One reviewer stated that they did not do well in dry wall....Dry wall is meant to be pretty not strong! I have used these hooks for everything from fishing rods, garden tools, and yep a bicycle or two...Just let your imagination be your guide. I suggest drilling a pilot hole with a 1/4 inch bit to keep floor joist from splitting. Best bang for the buck EVER! June 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Honestly--THE best purchase! The hooks are of great quality--and the price is amazing! I use them for everything! And I've purchased about 100 for a small theatre for Lighting Cable Management. What a deal! February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Use Perfect to use for hanging beach chairs in the garage. August 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by World's Greatest Fishing Rod Storage I've got these in pairs across my exposed joist utility room ceiling to hold my fishing rods (maybe 16-20 of them). It's a fantastic use for this product. The rubber coating protects the fishing rods from damage and the wide opening makes it easy to hang the rods. I've had them installed for over a decade and I've not found anything better. Would work equally well in a basement, of course. September 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great buy Perfect for hanging bikes, purchased 10 to hold our family bikes 2 for each bike. October 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Not just for bicycles We use these hooks for hanging our lifting straps at work. Very affordable. Can't wait to see what else they can be used for. May 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by string hooks Had them for a few months and they seem to work great. April 8, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Only good for narrow tires and low-profile rims This hook installs easily but won't accept fatter mtb tires like 2.1 and larger. Road bikes with ultra high-profile aero rims won't fit either. I'm now on the hunt for hooks that'll fit today's higher volume tires. October 22, 2013
