How long is the screw?

How long is the screw portion of the doorstop? I want to know if I can use it to make a shelf with a 1/2"-thick piece of wood. Thanks!
Asked by: cfrazier
Screw length appears to be about 5/8". If it is too long, you could trim the excess length before screwing it into the wood.

I recently had new dark wood flooring and slate tile installed throughout my condo. I also had new white baseboards installed. I didn't want to put the old, tarnished gold door stops back on so I went to Home Depot to peruse their selection. When I saw these white ones, I decided to get them so they would blend in with the baseboards instead of standing out. I bought 5 of them. They are heavy and seem well-made. Some reviewers have said they break off easily from the baseboards. Mine have only been on for 1 month so time will tell. I don't expect them to last forever anyway and they are cheap enough to replace. In the meantime, they are a nice looking piece of hardware along with the new pewter door knobs on my newly painted white interior doors and newly painted walls.

Looks good for the price, and installs quickly and easily, but hasn't survived my high-traffic areas, like the bathroom and garage. I'd replace them with a more "solid" product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 28 of 40 already broken. Poor build quality. We installed a lot of these in a large house. The finish is very nice, but they really dropped the ball on the design of the screw. The screw basically plunges 1/8" in to the body of the stopper and is held there by a sparse amount of glue. It does not hold. These separate at the above mentioned joint with very little effort. It's too bad, because the body is well made. I would definitely go with a different product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible quality and falls apart. I bought one of these and it fell apart halfway during installation, with the screw stuck in the wall and no reasonable way to remove it. After much work, I was able to pull it out. I foolishly concluded this was a "lemon" and took it back for another one. The same thing happened one day after installation, when an empty, lightweight plastic laundry basket gently touched it and out it came. This time, I'm having an even tougher time removing the tiny screw and it has left my baseboard very damaged. The time and hassle for this poorly designed piece of garbage has been ridiculous. It may have a nice look in terms of esthetics but save yourself the headache and buy a better product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice replacement I live in an older home, and one of the doorstops had broken off. So when I saw this, I ordered it. It's a very nice doorstop, very well made and has a good hefty weight to it. It was easy to install and looks very nice. The only problem is the packaging. This tiny little doorstop came in a box bigger than my new printer came in. Lots of bubble wrap and air bags, but I'm not quite sure why such a big box was needed. It will be a handy box for me, but unnecessary for shipping such a small item.
