The PowerPlasma 50 offers a simple low cost metal cutting alternative to traditional oxy/acetylene powered cutting outfits. There’s no expensive acetylene and oxygen gas to buy and no expensive monthly or yearly rent to pay on gas cylinders. Initial purchase cost is usually less than a typical purchase of a full size oxy/acetylene cutting torch and gas cylinder fill/refill that is required to begin cutting. The plasma cutter will sever up to 1 in. thick with good cutting speed and quality obtainable up to 5/8 in. thick. This unit is ideal for the cutting needs of a wide range of customers, including home hobbyists, farms, FAB shops, and even motorsports facilities. It features an inverter design that reduces the dimensions down to the size of an average shoebox. The dual voltage feature provides 50-amp of cutting power on 240-Volt. It features the ability to operate on 120-Volt at 25-amp as well, which is enough to cut body panels, and even metal up to 3/16 in. thick. It is easy to use, and takes very little practice to become proficient. The standard torch which is compatible with some other brands features consumables that are widely available online and at select welding supply distributors. To get started, we suggest a minimum air compressor size of 5 CFM at 90 psi and a tank size of 25-gal. Or greater and an inexpensive hair dryer mounted inline.

  • Ideal for home, farm, fabrication, motorsports, and even industrial venues
  • Auto sensing dual, 120/240-volt design allows use in places that don’t have access to 240-volt power
  • Comfortable, flexible S-45 torch is designed for cross compatibility of consumables on some brands
  • Low/no air pressure warning shuts down output until minimum safe operating pressure is achieved
  • Allows rapid fast cutting on metals up to 5/8 in. thick (steel, decrease by 20% for aluminum)

Rated 3 out of 5 by Long Wait, Several Issues The product I ordered is the PowerPlasma 50 Pilot Arc plasma cutter PP50. The product shipped was a PowerUltra 250P Tig/Stick/Plasma Cutter. The reason being that the PP50 was back ordered and unavailable in a reasonable time frame so the Everlast vendor chose to ship the 250P with only the plasma cutter torch. It took roughly a month to get the product. When delivered, it came with no 6-50P 240V plug, no product documentation, and no guidance of any kind on its usage. Fortunately, the Everlast web site has the documentation for download in PDF format. The manual states on P17 that the power plug is included, however Everlast's response to the Home Depot customer service inquiry was, no, it is not included. I bought a new plug, installed it and assembled the unit per the downloaded manual. It took several tries to get the pilot arc to work. It often took 30-45 seconds to come on, and when it did, it sputtered and quit. Resetting the power switch would re-enable this mode. After reading the troubleshooting guide it indicated the trigger switch was the most likely culprit. After testing the switch at the screw-in connector with an ohm meter, it was clear that the problem did, indeed live in this component. Upon disassembly of the torch handle, I found a loose connector on the switch. After tightening the connector, and reassembly, the torch worked as expected. The outer plastic cover for the torch cable was not connected to its swivel on the torch, so I slid the cover toward the torch and reconnected it. The cover continues to behave like a 2 year old and pulls out within a few minutes of use. The product does cut a variety of metals and thicknesses, I have not tested anything above 1/4" as yet, but am operating it at only 20 amps as indicated on the digital display and fully expect it to be capable of the maximum depth when I do try that. My recommendation is that anyone buying this company's products be sufficiently capable of problem determination and resolution to do local diagnosis of technical issues so that you are prepared for the quality control issues you will experience. Rated 5 out of 5 by Dual Voltage Plasma Cutter I wanted a dual voltage plasma cutter and this cutter fit the bill. I can drag it out to cut thin metal from any wall outlet while still having the option to cut thicker metal on a 220v line. It is super flexible! The torch can be detached (unlike some other plasma cutters) and changed if you want and I especially like the fact that the consumables are industry standard trafimet. They are easy to find and fairly cheap too. November 15, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rugged Plasma Cutter This plasma cutter takes a beating but has never disappointed me. I have cut aluminum and steel with it and I can’t be happier with the results. There is very little dross and that translates to less time to clean up the cuts. I can cut and go straight to using the pieces which means more done in less time. I really like the torch that came with this cutter. It has a sure trigger, solid cables and a quick connector that handles both the electronic and gas connections. This is a winner. March 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by No more grinding wheels! Just like the title says! No more grinding wheels! I first used this plasma cutter at a friend’s house and I was blown away by how fast and clean a plasma cutter can cut steel. This plasma cutter is very popular and I can see why. It is affordable, dependable and easy to use. What used to take minutes with a grinding wheel now takes seconds with a plasma cutter. November 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Affordable Plasma Metal Cutting Plasma cutters have gotten a lot more affordable and I’m glad to see Home Depot carrying one that is rugged and priced smart. The pilot arc makes cutting expanded metal and rusty metal much easier. I also like the fact that I can find extra torch parts really easily and that they don’t cost a lot. November 27, 2013
