Product Overview

As a part of the Multi-Process TIG/Stick/Plasma line of IGBT inverter welders from Everlast, the PowerUltra 205 is ultra-useful around home shops and small garages as an all-around welder and plasma cutter combination. The welder component features DC output in TIG and Stick modes and is useful for welding all types of metals except aluminum and magnesium. In TIG mode the unit features a simple 2 position pulse with a 0.5 and 25 hertz fixed setting. The plasma cutter can handle all types of metal and can regularly cut plate metal up to 1/2 in. thick with a clean cut capacity of up to 3/4 in. If you are looking for a simple solution to your steel and stainless welding and cutting needs, the PowerUltra 205 offers a compact alternative to purchasing separate units.

  • All-in-1 portability for portable repair operations
  • Compact design allows the unit to go anywhere straight forward controls, with 2 preset pulse settings for easy TIG operation
  • Quick change out of torches for easy change from TIG to plasma back to TIG
  • Low power consumption due to inverter design
  • High duty cycle of 60% at rated amperages for TIG/Stick/Plasma
  • Front air pressure gauge for easy verification of air pressure
  • Over current/duty cycle protection circuit warns and interrupts welding/cutting to ensure safe, and long life operation
  • Clean and smooth plasma cuts on virtually any metal
  • Welds steel, stainless steel and titanium (PowerUltra is DC output only, and is not suitable for welding aluminum, although it can cut aluminum)
  • Great arc stability for TIG/Stick functions due to IGBT inverter design
  • 2-preset pulse settings of 0.5 and 25 hz.
  • Dual voltage design allows unit to be operated on 120-volt or 240-volt, (output is reduced in 120-volt operation to approximately 125-amps TIG/ 95-amps stick/25-amps plasma)

Answer:
If you are planning to weld aluminum, don't buy a DC machine. The aluminum welding electrodes that can be used on DC are not meant for projects. They are for quick field repairs where extreme splatter, ugly dirty porous welds, and 6 second burn down times don't matter.

Answer:
PowerUltra 205P has a DC TIG feature. Cleanest aluminum weld is best achieved with an AC TIG welder, which is available in next model up, PowerPro 164. However, it is possible to Stick weld aluminum, using specific aluminum electrodes, although it is a bit trickier, not as clean, and requires a lot of practice. Thanks.

Answer:
Consumables are torch specific. PowerUltra 205P comes with 26 series TIG torch, and S45 series plasma torch. You can definitely find consumables for both of these torches on Everlast site, or maybe even here, on homedepot site.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good combo unit I don't usually recommend combo units but I'm just a hobbyist who needs to cut the occasional steel part and perform weld repairs so this is the right price for me to spend money on. Even though I like separate machines and tools for each specific purpose I have to say I like combo units because they don't take all the space of separate machines and for someone like me who works out of a small garage that is a huge win. I like this machine and hope to be making more use of it this summer. February 6, 2015
