Rated 4 out of 5 by Consistent Readings, Medium plastic works for a light size & weight for students. Out of the Box a medium plastic weight meter with a generic 9 Volt battery included. It is the right size and weight for casual use as a light meter. On an overcast morning I measured readings around the yard, it appears consistent at Range Setting B 200-1999fc (foot candles) dark side and light side. Two different trees measured at the same angle. pictured. I've vintage still light meters that don't use a battery and have more weight than this, but this plastic works! As a student learning how to measure foot candles I like both the price and the weight. November 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Handy Meter This meter makes the set up of lighting in kitchens, baths, workshops or other rooms or areas easy. This makes setting up even lighting coverage almost easy. With this meter it's easier to get the correct amount of lighting in overhead can lights. Swap bulb wattages to get the needed brightness and to setup the depth of the bulbs in cans to get the best coverage. Any dim areas or areas that have hot spots are easy to see and calibrate with this meter. If you are setting up a drop ceiling, this meter makes getting the lights in the correct areas or adjusting the baffles faster. In short it takes the guesswork out of lighting set up. The readout on the meter is large and easy to read from a moderate working distance. This makes the meter easier to use since you can see it from a ladder when it's setting on the floor or a counter top. My meter was missing the A & B text on the "RANGE" table, its just two white blocks. It's easy to add the text but it should have come with the markings as shown on the package and in the instructions. This is even helpful to set up headlights or auxiliary lights vehicles. Mark the spot that the lamp needs to hit, attach the meters light sensor to those spots and adjust the lights to get the max brightness. The meter comes with clear and easy to understand instructions with a lighting table for most common areas. November 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by ACCURATE AND RELAIABE AND EASY TO USE The EXTECH (model 401027) Foot Candle Light Meter has performed flawlessly. Actually far better than many similar meters at almost twice the price. One of the characteristics that is appreciated in the meter is its reliability to give repeat accurate readings, and under the same conditions. I am an avid photographer and used to being in so many different environments and the lighting is very important to achieve good results. I used to use the in camera light meter with mixed results but the EXTECH light meter has made the process of achieving the correct settings every time. I would recommend it to anyone needing accurate measurement of candle light. October 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to use, accurate light meter, The light meter is easy to use and produced stable repeatable readings. Just turn on the power, remove the rubber cap on the sensor, and place it where you want to take a reading. The remote sensor permits the collection of light at a comfortable position during the reading. It makes for a very affordable general illumination light meter and can be used for determining illumination levels in various applications. For example, when I was renovating my bathroom lighting I wanted to determine the amount of foot candle power put out by my existing fluorescent lighting. I was then able to provide the amount of recessed lighting that would be necessary to give me the same amount of illumination that I had before. November 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by perfect for remodeling This is the perfect tool for any remodeling project. Recently, we updated our kitchen, including lighting. This tool allows for determining the correct lighting for any area of the home. The guide that is included gives the recommended foot candles for each area. No more guessing how many ceiling can lights to install. This tool will allow you to determine the correct amount for proper reading or cooking. The tool is very well constructed and is very portable. I like the digital scale which is easy to read. The unit is easy to use and provides great information for lighting decisions.
