Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Generation Engineering Technology makes Testing easier. The FLIR IM75 is both an advanced multifunction digital multimeter where you measure AC & DC voltages, resistance, capacitance etc and premier handheld insulation tester for installation, troubleshooting and maintenance by technicians and professionals. The IM75 includes several specialty insulation modes including, like Polarization Index, Dielectric Absorption and Earth Bond Resistance. Insulation tests can be performed instantly, continuously and over a timed duration for in-depth assessment, the way you like it. One of the best feature I like is the Bluetooth connection with the METERLiNK Android and iOS Application. I can pair my IR camera with this multimeter, and get the data on the camera screen. This is a product well made, and can be used for a life time, thanks to the research and development team of FLIR.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong and reliable The most obvious conclusion I have come to with this meter, which includes the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD Mode) which is primarily used on variable controlled drive equipment plus the standard array of testing functions of most digital multi-function multi meters have is to have a good and clear understanding of the way this meter functions. If you have little or no intentions of using this for anything other than a basic DMM, then acquire a basic model. I am quite adept in conducting all my own electrical testing but am not very familiar with testing the insulation of motors so I pleased when a long time tester of insulation, invited me along for half a day allowing the testing and the accuracy of this unit. His primary job is to A) periodic preventive maintenance engineer and B) A specialist technician for field testing. He still has with him the old crank up meghommeter which he prefers over the more recent development in electrical instruments. He checked the resistance of the insulation measuring its resistance to current flow across it using his own crank meter and then the FLIR IM75 and saw that both meters showed the same results. The testing between the two meters also showed Dielectric absorption and the Earth bond test to be the same. The noticeable difference was that the backlight of large display of the FLIR IM75 plus the added two lights on the front that are so impressive, especially in a darkened area. I noted the time it took for his old mega to do the tests and time took for the FLIR to do the same. Took him three hours with his mega and about forty minutes with the IM75 even though it took two time resistance readings to complete the test and took his time to become familiar with the FLIR settings and connections. Very impressed with the results and time saving. At home I used it for testing most of my equipment comparing the findings to my regular DMM and found absolutely no variation in results. Other than that, it does seem a little big for getting into tight areas and then using it. Tested the Bluetooth function embraced with the IR thermo’ and it did work as it should, albeit will take some familiarity to its operation before becoming confident with its use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Digital Multimeter with Advanced functionality Flir IM75 digital multimeter with the Insulation Testing capabilities is a must have for Industrial testing. Due to variable frequency drive mode allows you have to get accurate results despite the noisy signal. Added bonus is the bluetooth connectivity that allows you to remotely monitor and run diagnosis using the FLIR Tools Mobile App. In darker places you can use the built in LEDs for illumination. The multimeter measures up to 1 KV of voltage. Standard multimeter functions such as capacitance, diode, transistor testing, Amperage etc are included. As per the manual insulation tests can be conducted instantaneously but I have nit checked that functional robust construction. The smartphone app does allows you to share readings or create reports.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More Features than I know what to do with! To say that this is 'feature packed' is an understatement! I doubt I have used 5% of the features it has to offer but I am impressed never the less. First off ... assembly. Easy to install batteries AND replace the fuse if needed. This is KEY! I have several other meters and once in a great while, I'll do something "wrong" and blow the fuse. ALL of my other meters require sever disassembly to get to the fuse for replacement. The fuse in this unit is located right there with the batteries. Initial use ... The meter comes with a neat magnetic hanging strap that is more than ample to support the weight of the unit. Another fun feature that I haven't seen in another one of my units. I cannot tell you how many times I've had to find a way to secure the unit with tape, zip-ties, etc. to hold it in places that were less than easy to get to. The magnetic holder with this unit solves that issue. Feature packed ... the modes are easy to see & understand on the large, bright screen. The built in LED lighting is a good idea so I don't need to use my other hand holding a flashlight. It's bright too! Wish it came with a storage case for the cost of the unit ... the only downfall I've found to it. Lastly .. it is Bluetooth compatible with MeterLink, a FREE Flir App you can download to your mobile device. This allows you to monitor long term trends or maybe you want to place the meter at a device/outlet & flip breakers in another nearby location ... no longer need two people to do this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Insulation Tester This is a specialty instrument. While it has some limited multimeter capabilities, what makes it special are the functions specific to measuring insulation characteristics with high voltage and measuring the quality of ground connections. These measurements are typically used to monitor equipment with a large amount of insulated wire, such as electric motor windings, electric heating appliances, and to determine the safety of grounded appliances. The manual doesn't explain the principles behind these tests, but if you can find information online. The insulation tests should not be done on powered equipment or any equipment containing solid-state circuitry like VFD motor drive units since high voltages are applied during the test. You can also shock yourself if you're not careful, so caution and education are advised. I was especially impressed with the large spring clamps that screw onto the probes. They're easy to open, yet hold tenaciously. I used the meter to verify that some 25-year-old wall heaters were still safe to use. I had some usability observations. There's no detection that the probe is connected to the wrong input jack when switching functions, so it can look like you're measuring high insulation resistance with the probe still plugged into the voltage input jack instead of the insulation input jack. The workflow using the meter is a little complicated. After checking voltage to make sure the circuit is not powered, you have to switch the probe from the voltage input jack to the insulation input jack, use the rotary selector to switch the function an IR function, use the selector pad to select "INSUL" (or one of the other IR test modes), and finally press "Test/OK" a second time to make the measurement. Combined with the excellent probe clamps, this workflow could be considered a safety feature, since your hands will be on the meter and not near the device being measured. I had no trouble using the IOS Flir Tools app with the Bluetooth data connection on my iPod Touch. The meter will log up to 99 measurements that can be downloaded using Bluetooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Device FLIR is a big brand name and with this device they once again don't disappoint. This is a device for professionals, not DIY. You can get a multi-meter for much cheaper, BUT this device has many more functions with the insulation tester. The Bluetooth connectivity to your smartphone is a great feature too, as it allows you to measure without being right next to the power source. The device has a very sturdy feel and will likely last for years in a professional every day use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A multifunction digital multimeter on steroids This tool is like a multifunction digital multimeter on steroids. With the addition of being able to test insulation modes like Polarization Index, Dielectric Absorption and Earth Bond Resistance, this all-in-one tool is perfect for the electrical professional. Sadly, the meters menu is somewhat cumbersome to navigate, and takes a bit of getting used to. I had to keep referring to the manual just to perform some basic readings. Two bright LED work lights on the top of the meter allow you to work in dimly lit areas. A magnetic strap allows you to hang the meter from a metal surface for handsfree operation, and a built-in kickstand folds from the back of the meter. The VFD Mode uses a low-pass filter to ensure precision readings, when signals may otherwise be noisy. The display is large and easy to read from any angle, and a backlight can be turned on for low light environments. The meter takes 6 AA batteries (supplied).
