Straight tight joints in the insulated cover. Weatherstrip seals well. The steel ladder is strong and the whole unit looks very, very nice. My wife likes it a lot too.
Installation tip: there are four brackets that stand the ladder off the cover about three inches. Make sure the ladder is parallel with the cover. Mine came with the ladder fully extended in the two brackets at the top but not the bottom two. Full extension creates adequate toe space when using the ladder. The ladder should be fully extended in all four brackets before cutting the ladder to fit the height of your ceiling.

First ladder received was damaged. Reordered same item thru Home Depot. Second ladder was received and no damage was noted.
Instructions are very vague. I emailed customer service at Fakro for information on installation kit. I have yet to hear from them.
Installation of ladder took more time than I anticipated but the final result is worth the effort.
Note: I rate the quality of this ladder very high. No aluminum or wooden ladder can compare to it's quality.
If you need help from Fakro.....good luck!

My earlier review was incomplete.
The people at Fakro responded to a ladder defect with a new replacement part.
They are very prompt in their service and keeping customer satisfaction a high concern.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ampercival Solid ladder
I purchased this ladder to replace the existing cheaper one, because one of the arms had broken rendering it useless.
I selected this ladder because of its solid metal design and thick insulated door. I wanted something that I could used frequently, since we use our attic for storage. This product did not disappoint: It is extremely well built; the ladder itself is very sturdy; the door has a great seal and locks in the closed position.
The unit itself is heavy, and it took two of us to safely install. The most difficult part is lowering and levelling the unit into the opening. The instructions suggest doing this with pieces of 2x4 cross-braced on either end of the unit with a piece of rope tied around each. We found it easier to used 4 straps (one at each corner of the braces) for easier lowering and levelling. Once the unit is supported and level in the opening, the rest is a breeze.
When closed, the unit is tightly sealed and does not allow any air flow around the edges. Operating it is very easy. The heavy duty springs keep the door from swinging down when the unit is unlatched, but still makes it easy to pull down.
I highly recommend this product if you want a good solid attic ladder.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by TomR Good product, but can be a challenge to install - have faith
The installation guide is different then most anything you will see. All pictures and not even one instructional word. But the pictures are worth a 1000 words. For most, this is a two person job. Hints: make sure the opening is squared & large enought so the unit can be dropped-in with clearance on all 4 sides; the entire unit is supported in the opening by twine or something similar, the entire unit weights only 65 lbs., so I used a small (1/8") nylon twine. Looks great & very sturdy - worth the price & effort.

Nice quality ladder with heavy duty hatch. Takes two people to install, as it's quite heavy (which is the reason we bought it in the first place). The only bad thing about it is that the plastic feet that are on the end of the ladder were broken on arrival.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by skootstra Decent product but hard to install
Yes, in spite of misleading/conflicting information in the Description, this does indeed fit a 22.5x54 rough opening. It is effectively identical to Fakro LWM 22/54. Arrived in a timely manner, good price and shipping was free.
Installation instructions were poor--pictures only. I had to spent a fair amount of time studying the instructions and had to disassemble the unit (remove the ladder section so I could drill a pair of holes) to ensure that the installation went smoothly.
I have a standard dimension American house (96" ceiling) but found that the height meant that I had to work around one of the steps when trimming the ladder to size--It works, but the adjustments are at their limits. Installation requires metric tools.
Finished, installed unit seems to seal well and provides decent insulation, so in the end, I'm happy.
But, I've installed 6 Attic ladders during my life and this was definitely the most difficult.

The product I purchased is good, and it was well-packaged, but the door for the ladder sustained damage during the shipping process which will require repairs. Also, the frame for the door was separated at one corner and it required screws to pull the corner back together.
