Good, solid attic stairs. Seals well when closed to save energy costs.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jayfore Good Product But Not Perfect
I bought the 30" model which was highly recommended by my builder. I am definitely glad that we designed for and went with that over the 24" model. The product is very solid and well constructed, and I think it will hold up well for many years. It was also fairly priced. I do have a few complaints...
My primary complaint is that the door does not shut when the ladder is folded up and pushed back up to the ceiling. Instead, it hangs down about 6". That just looks bad to me. I expected and would have preferred that it close flush, and have a rope hanging for me to pull it down when I need it. There is nothing in the manual about adjusting this, but I plan to contact Fakro to ask if it was designed to always just hang open this way or if I can increase the spring tension to fix it. From the looks of it though, I will not be able to make it close fully on its own every time. This is my primary source of dissatisfaction with the item -- I don't want the door just hanging down/open all the time. Yes there is a rod that I can use to push the door up and latch it in place but that should not be necessary in my opinion.
Next, this 30" model is made to fill a 30" opening in the ceiling, but the ladder itself is no wider than what would come on the 24" model -- I assumed and would have hoped that the ladder would have been wider also. Second, the item comes with large advertisement stickers (for other Fakro products) stuck to the inside of the ladder door, so when you pull it down you see these, and every time you use the ladder you see them. They are basically impossible to remove because they are cheap paper stickers which don't come off all at once and leave all their glue and paper fiber behind. It would not be easy to scrape them off without damaging the finish of the door material. These stickers cheapen the look and are very irritating.
My final thing is that the steps are about 3" deep, similar to my everyday home ladder, but once you get to the upper part (where the door is behind the steps), I would have liked for the door to be further away from the step, so my foot could be placed deeper on the step. What I mean is that because I have larger feet the front of my shoe kicks into the backside of the door when I reach those upper steps; more distance between the step and the door would help to avoid this.
All around, I assume this is one of the best pull-down ladder out there today, but there are a few things that should be able to be easily addressed by the manufacturer to make it better.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by beaker Very Sturdy, Just what I needed!
Product was delivered by UPS. Had small cracks in the frame around the stairs but they were not consequential. Installed just fine. Had to trim the bottom of the stairs with a saws all for it to fit in a garage with 8ft ceiling. Very Sturdy.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by DIYMan Could use some improvements
I purchased this product because I wanted something that was sturdy and which would sustain a heavy load. When the product arrived I opened it for inspection and noticed that two of the corners did not meet flush and were separating. Since these were outside boards, I concluded that it would not matter as much once it is installed since the framing would help push it back together. So the quality in this respect was not what I expected. My second disappointment was the inconsistent advertisement. The product was listed as rated for 350 lbs, however, the markings on the package said it was rated for only 300 lbs. Since this was one of the main reasons I chose this one over the others, I feel taken by the misrepresentation. I feel the installation could have gone a little better if they kept the original installation kit as part of the package (the one with four bolts and lugs) instead of making it a separate purchase. Without it, it is a little more of a hassle to install. I like the insulated door and the metal steps feel very sturdy. However, the quality of fitting is poor since the steps do not make full contact with each other when fully extended which will result in more load on the hinges. As for the method of pull down, I do not mind the metal rod needed to turn the latch, but I wish they made the return spring force stronger and provided a means to open the ladder from the inside, as I can see with the current design that it can be used to lock someone in the attic. This may be the way most ladders are constructed perhaps though. An improvement would be to provide a means to open the door from inside the attic.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Jerrycolonna Bad shipping
Received the product with a big gash in the side of the box. Opened to find wood was splintered and broken on one side of the overall frame. It was easier for me to fix it than to send it back. I do like the ladder. Frame should be 3/4. Not 3/8. Serves its purpose, which is using it to reach storage space. For the price, it shouldn't have arrived in splinters.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DIYer Very nice product
I have to say this ladder is worth the money. Installation was as expected. Probably not for an amateur. The only reason I didn't give an excellent rating is the packaging. When the Item was shipped the box didn't look damaged however the frame on the ladder was. I didn't have time to send it back due to construction schedule so I had to reinforce the frame myself. This is an excellent product, just could use better package for shipping.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mickey good product bad information
Bottom line... a good product. However, Home Depot ad states it has a 350 pound rating while the actual rating from the manufacturer is anly 300 pounds.
My major complaint is lack of proper information regarding installation, such as exact dimensions for the rough-in and information I found lacking until I received the unit. I repeatedly requested specific dimensions from Home Depot and was finally told I would need to wait until I received the unit and could see for myself.
Inconvenient when my construction crew needed to make an extra trip to the job site.
