I really like this attic ladder. It's sturdy and well made, and the door closes tightly to seal out the cold air in the attic. We installed it by putting some boards across the opening to hold the ladder in place while attaching it. Then I unscrewed the boards so my helper could escape the attic. This worked really well. We also had to saw off the bottom few rungs to fit our 8' ceiling, but that was not a big deal.

Sturdy, well made, insulated with weather seal to prevent heat loss to attic. Easy to install but it is heavy so get a couple of friends to help lift it in place. I am now going to purchase a 30" wide second one to install in my garage.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by HappyHomeowner13 Great stairs, especially for a big guy!
Ordered these after reading many reviews of many different manufacturers stairs. Let me start out by saying, I'm a big guy, 6'3, over 400#, so my concern was safety first.
None of the stairs had a rating for 400#, most, like these, had 300/350. However I decided to take a gamble. Reading further, I saw that the directions for these, were poor, at best, based on pictures. I will definitely agree with that. Some better directions could help, although with what is included, my father and I got the job done.
We had these delivered to my home, none of the issues that I've seen posted here with other delivery woes, so can't speak to that. Packaging was secure and intact, no damage. Came very quickly.
Old pull down stairs out, new ones up fairly quick, installed securely. Locking/latching mechanism works nicely. Seals nice, no air draft coming through from above.
Adjusting the height for our floor to ceiling height was fairly simple, unbolted the bottom section, took a SawzAll to it, and reattached it, piece of cake. No issues with the stoppers on the bottom falling off as others had mentioned.
My father's a decent sized guy, so he went up and down a few times, felt really secure on them, so I decided to give it a try, gotta say, for the amount of times I'm going to be using them, I'll feel safe. For the other times, I'll feel 1000 times safer sending my wife up and down to fetch/store the holiday decorations and kiddo stuff we're saving over the rickety old wooden stairs we pulled out of there =)
If you're not sure if these stairs are worth the money, let me assure you, they are. Just take your time and study the directions, I mean, pictures =)

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by rstoer Fakro LWM Attic Ladder
This Fakro model LWM attic ladder is exactly what I was looking for. After having my arm nearly taken off by the spring on my old attic stairs when a rivet let loose (second set in ten years) I wanted something better. Since everyone in my area (including the local Home Depot) stocked the same junk as I had before, I ordered this model on-line. After living with it for over a year I’ve absolutely no regrets. The hinge design is both sturdier and safer than the others I’ve had and the insulated door locks tight against a rubber gasket to keep your heat from escaping. Overall, the design and construction are far better than the others I’ve seen.
Three minor caveats for someone considering this model:
1) The instructions are not the best and the adjustments are a little fiddly. I eventually had to make a few modifications to get the results I was looking for.
2) The three foot long rod that's used to lock/unlock the door has to be stored somewhere handy (offsetting this is there’s no pull-down rope hanging from the ceiling).
3) The painted steel steps are somewhat heavier than the typical aluminum or wood ladder and the treads are a little narrower at 3.2" (others are about 4"). The stairs are fine with me but my 5' 3" wife is afraid she’ll get knocked on the head while trying to unfold the heavy steps. I believe they also make a version with wood stairs but I've no experience with that model.
When properly installed, I'm convinced this pull-down ladder will last as long as the house it’s in. I recommend it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by bb1engineer Great Upgrade
My house is a 1978 vintage, ranch, frame. I have done some serious rennovation and this is one of the last items. The attic access ladder is in the house proper. The old, leaky one was a sore spot forever. This one is insulated and gasketed. Should be a short payback on utility bills. Within a couple of weeks, we knew that the attic dust issue was greatly decreased. I don't know how long this has been on the market, but I found out about it at a friends house and I'm delighted!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by THSummers Easy to install & very well built
The ladder is extremely sturdy and well built. The installation was straight forward and relatively easy. My only complaint was the instructions did not have any words, just pictures. They were easy to follow but not very detailed.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Donald Bad Company To Deal With
I picked up the unit from Home Depot and it appeared to be a good quality unit. I noticed that the installation kit that I wanted to use for my installation was optional. I called the company and was referred to another company even though the kit was available there. (Home Depot did not have the kit listed for purchase) I ordered the kit and when it arrived the packaging was damaged and the hardware was missing. I called the company back and the person told me that I could go to a local hardware store to replace the missing parts. I protested and asked to send the parts and I am still waiting. If I do not get them I am returning the unit to Home Depot. I even sent an e-mail to the parent company and never got a reply there either. The customer service from this company is terrible and they could care less about their customers. The right answer to me on the first call was to send me the kit and I would have happily paid for it. Instead I was referred elsewhere and I get a damaged kit and they are telling me to go to the hardware store for what I bought already to replace missing parts. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I would not buy another thing from this company.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AggieDan Great product
This ladder comes package well, but the installation instructions are a series of pictures, no text. Easy to figure out if you are an above average diy'er. You will need a 10mm wrench.
The door opens and closes very easily and the installation is very clean. No doubt this is a quality product, light years beyond the standard door I removed. The slight additional price is well worth the cost.
