Rated 5 out of 5Â by PondMan Sturdy, high quality wooden ladder
I was looking for an fire-resistant attic ladder to install in my garage. The LWF ladder met my requirements. I purchased the 22" x 47" model. It is reasonably priced, sturdy and made of quality materials. With the paper instructions and the on-line installation video, it was not bad to install. It is definitely a two-person job, due to the weight of the ladder. I am very satisfied.
Some installation hints:
* The attic joists were not 22.5" evenly spaced apart, so I had to use a sawzall to trim the sides of the joists. After the joists were trimmed, I attached 2x4x8 boards to reinforce the trimmed joists.
* To hold the ladder in place while I secured it to the joists, I first screwed in 4 metal hooks, one at each corner of the ladder. I then secured a metal rod at the front and another at the back of the ladder (through the metal hooks). The folded ladder was then lowered into the attic hole, with the metal rods resting on the attic joists. Shims were then installed under the metal rods to raise or lower the rods (and ladder) as needed. This made the ladder *very* stable as it was secured to the joists.
* Thank you to my wife for her help! :-)

Rated 5 out of 5Â by frustratedpainter Outstanding Quality!
This attic stair assembly is by far the best quality unit I have seen. The operation is smooth and the door closes and seals without gaps of any kind. The cost for the unit was high because of the fire rating, but, if the non rated units are as well built, I will be reluctant to install any other brand. The ladder also has a number of adjustment points making it easy to get the pull down section to lie flat on the floor without gaps in the sections.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Delprops Fakro attic ladder is worth the price
I bought this Fakro ladder after reading specs and reviews of many competing products. It replaced a low end attic ladder from another manufacturer because the wood cover warped and no longer sealed the opening. This cover is extremely thick and would be impossible to warp. The quality of construction and ease of installation is superior to lower priced products. The installed unit fits perfectly flush with the ceiling, and trims outs beautifully with 1 3/8, 946-PFJ WM947 stop molding (049437363722), with bevel on outside edge. I recommend using Timber-Lock screws to secure to the attic joists. The door can be primed and painted any color. I applied primer and ceiling paint because customer wanted ladder to blend into the ceiling and this achieved the desired result. The steps are a bit narrower than some other ladders, but adequate. This ladder is strong enough to allow a person to carry equipment into the attic. This is important if you have to service an attic a.c. system. The opening and closing mechanism is superior, with a smooth tension feature which ensures a tight seal, as does the weatherstripping. When you reach a certain height with the pole, it smoothly pulls itself closed. This ladder is worth every penny I paid for it and I am glad I bought it.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by MrPMS Solid, well made attic ladder
This attic ladder is very solid and well made. I have limited space, and its relative small size is just right. I didn't do the installation, but the guys I hired had it done in a couple of hours and had no surprises.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Allthumbs Only way to go is with a fire rated attic ladder assembly
A fire rated assembly is always important. Combined with an insulated system and a gasketed seal, this product is a superb value. I can no longer hear my attic fan as the assembly acts as an excellent acoustical barrier as well. The ladder is beautiful and manufactured to the highest international quality standards. Silly to wax poetic about an attic ladder; but, it is elegant; I love it. Professionals installed it for me.
