Strong, compact preframed ladder, and very easy to install. I actually was able to do the whole project by my self. I recommend getting the plastic molding kit for this ladder. It makes a great looking finished installation, and is also very easy to install.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SK Great ladder, somewhat confusing installation
Excellent ladder, head and shoulders above the rest once it is installed. However, installation instructions are completely in pictures, so the installation process needs to be studied a bit before beginning the process.

I chose this out of a long list of attic ladders because its dimensions fit the construction of my house. It arrived very quickly and the first comment from the delivery man was in regards to its weight. True, it is heavy, especially when one is trying to install it alone. I found it to be well constructed of very nice materials. After I built the opening in the ceiling of a hallway, it only took 45 minutes to put it in, but only after ignoring most of the instructions for installing it. The instructions are in very detailed pictures and diagrams, no words, but they are based on the supposition that it is to be installed in new construction, not retro-fit. That takes some thinking and I do not recommend anyone to try to do it without help, though it can be done. It works well and is very solid.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by j0H4nn4 Easy to lower and raise
My Fakro Insulated Steel Attic Ladder is a great replacement for the old wooden attic stairs. These are much lighter to raise and lower and are much sturdier to climb especially with a load in your arms. I have an old house so also wonder if things will fit correctly and these stairs fit lovely in the space. It took 2 men just 4 hours to remove the old stairs and install the new ones.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by VADiYer good attic ladder
This is the second attic ladder I've installed in my home (separate attics in garage and house). The first was another brand, and was much less expensive. For this project I needed something to fit in a smaller opening and this fit the dimension. Install was easy with lessons learned from the previous project. This ladder is steel, and quite sturdy. I also appreciate that the door latches rather than rely on the spring tension to hold the door closed. Overall good product and would purchase again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HandyWoman Very well constructed, highly recommended
This steel attic ladder is well made and very strong. I had it professionally installed but I think a reasonably competent home handyperson who is able to correctly identify and assess structural capabilities of the installation infrastructure and use the appropriate screws could handle the job. I have used it a lot, for about two years now, and it is as solid as ever. The additional weight of steel vs. aluminum is no problem. I wanted a ladder strong enough for regular use and this works well.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by JamesinDetroit Minor unexpected complications in installation....
So, the ladder itself is very nice, high quality, sturdy as can be. BUT... installing it has been less-than-simple - for my professional contractors.
For some reason, although it says that it is for an 8 foot ceiling, the ladder is too long. By 13 Inches. The instructions (which aren't written out in any way; they are horribly unclear pictograms that appear to be intended to confuse any user regardless of their spoken language) do show something that appears to be a hacksaw, and in fact once it is hacked down to length, it fits.
Now, I understand the need for flexibility in length, but this seems like a whole lot to me. It also has other adjustments in other places for minor length fluctuations, probably up to at least 5 - 6 inches. Why then do you make a metal ladder 13 inches too long?

I didn't really like any of the attic ladders I saw in the store, they all seemed too flimsy. When I saw this attic ladder listed on-line, I liked the fact that it had a metal ladder rather than a wooden one. The installation instructions were somewhat confusing, but between the two of us we got it in and done. I don't see how anyone could do this by themselves. I really like the way the attic ladder looks once it was trimmed out. The flush "keyhole" is a nice touch. Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase.
