Is the Farko attic ladder fire rated?

Framing inspector wants to know if the Farko steel attic ladder I just installed, is fire rated?
Asked by: DoItYourselfer
No, the only two models of Fakro Ladders that are Fire Rated are "LSF" and "LWF" models. I hope this helps anyone looking for a fire rated ladder.

what is the min clearance for the swing radius when extending the ladder.

measured from the hinges to the ladder feet while opening.
Asked by: ricster
From the end of the closed ladder to the outer most "Projection" in a swinging motion would be 65 1/2" to the stairs folded section. Once the stairs are locked downward position, the measurement from the end of the frame to the bottom of the stairs will be 56". I hope this helps anyone who is looking for this information.

Is required rough opening 47" exactly or 46.5"?

In other words, if I have ceiling joists 16" on center, can I cut 2 joists, install a double trimmer to support the 2 cut joists and slide this unit in between the remaining joists that I do not have to cut? 16" X 3 - 1½" = 46.5"
Asked by: Jack
The outside frame dimensions are 24 x 46-5/8 inches, where as the internal dimensions are 23 x 44-7/8 inches. Hope that helps you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Ladder Well built ladder that is very solid. Door is thick and is not flimsy at all. The metal ladder is not going to break under heavy load. The opening is large and will allow items to fit that won't fit with smaller ladders. I deducted a star for quality because mine had a crack along the one end that I had to repair myself, but it wasn't that big of a deal. a few things to note when cutting the legs to the proper height. first make sure the ladder is fully pulled as far away from the door as possible (the bolts are loose by default). this creates slightly more room for your feet. then, move the up/down adjuster so the ladder is as far up as possible. this will allow flexibility later in case you have to elongate the ladder later on. you can always cut off more, but you can't add on. also take note how the plastic feet are made. unlike wood ladders, you cut this one straight across because the feet are angled to compensate for that. just make sure to measure everything correctly (measure 2, 3, 4, etc times before cutting).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very solid attic ladder We are very impressed with this ladder; it's extremely solid and unfolds/folds up very nicely. It was also one of the few ladders that fit into our space, that held up to 350 lbs. I figured that my 200 lb husband wouldn't be safe on a 250 lbs ladder if he was carrying anything heavy. And it was very cost-competitive with other lesser-quality ladders.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best I could Find. I did extensive research on attic ladders before I bought this model. It is well made, installed easily, and looks good. I bought one for the garage and another for the interior hallway. Way better than the Century or Werner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from dissapointed but it will do The feet on the bottom of the ladder were both broken and the door is cheap fiber board that had four cracks in it. In my opinion, the quality control in the factory seems to be lacking. All in all,it's a sturdy ladder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Farko Attic Ladder-Good product I had to special order this ladder off the Home Depot website because the in store models were too big for the space I was trying to install the unit, which was also in a tricky spot in our house, above the basement stairs. There was a previous opening there for access to the attic, but the swing clearance was only 60-66 inches with a door there. When I looked up this model, it had everything we needed. Solid metal ladder, smaller in length that allowed a smaller swing clearance, and I like the fact that you have to put in a tool to open it. It comes with a rod that you insert in the door, twist and open. Good for anyone that has young children or teenagers that like to be explorers, with most traditional attic ladders that just have a pull down knob that allows easy access. Product was installed in a few hours by a couple of novices, considering the tough spot of an installation. Shipping was quick, with product arriving only 3 days after purchasing online. Very happy with the product and anyone who buys it will be too!
