Can this ladder be opened and closed from the inside of attic
Asked by: Brian
No, the ladder can not be extended from above. The design requires pulling the ladder from below to extend it after the hatch door is pulled down and open. You may be able to push the hatch down but extending the ladder would be next to impossible from above.

Our ceiling height is 8'1". How many steps do we need to remove for this model to be suitable?

I live in Mexico, but my husband lives in La Jolla. We are remodeling his condo. We want to purchase the ladder and then find someone to install it, possibly someone referred to us by Home Depot.
Asked by: Sally
Removing one step will be adequate to install these stairs at 8' 1" ceiling height but with careful adjustment by the assembly directions, you could leave all eleven steps. This could be a matter of choice since your ceiling is very close to the "remove a step' height limit. Watch the dimension given.... very carefully!

I have a Rainbow Attic Stair model M3060H and the plastic cup embedded in the door is broken. I want to replace it. It is necessary to be able to pull down on the door to access my attic. Can I purchase a replacement part?
Asked by: Bill
Hi Bill, please type 'parts' in the search engine to be redirected to our parts website. I hope this helps! We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot!

Can two steps be removed?

My ceiling height is 7'4", and the maximum projection before hitting the wall is 47". Would this fit with two steps removed?
Asked by: TDCA
Yes, you can remove two steps but then you must remove the last half scissor section from the two steps and reinstall it to the last scissor section remaining. The last half section has the floor rollers for floor protection. You will need to do this after the assembly is installed in the ceiling by pulling the stairs partially down enough to reach the portion that you wish to remove. These are very good attic stairs BTW....

I have a 10 foot ceiling and my old attic ladder was in three sections and dangerous to unfold. I researched my options in finding a ladder I could handle alone. I selected this ladder with an extra step. I had to buy the additional step from another source as the Home Depot offering was not the correct size. Make sure you check it-I went to Fakro's website for additional spec info. The installation video on their website is fantastic. I had my contractor watch it with me. The ladder has real steps and a good angle for easy climbing-no issues with the knees, It is not as simple as the company literature suggests in getting the ladder locked or unlocked. It takes a bit of strength to push the ladder holding pins out of their cradle, remember you are working over your head which can be tiring. Once you unlock the ladder it is a snap to unfold the rest of the way. My goal of replacing the old ladder with one I could operate myself was successful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pricey but good The stairs are great. A little difficult to put in but very attractive compared to alternatives. Also very stable and nice to use. The price was a little hard to swallow though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beware of measurements given.... The installation is straight forward except for the 'rough opening' dimensions for the framed hole in the ceiling. Going by the dimensions given will cause much aggravation, massive amounts of wasted time and the use of some really bad language....when you realize on raising the assembly up to the hole that it will not go in. The size of the opening must be at least 3/4" larger than their given dimensions or 27 3/4" x 31 3/4" because the assembly frame must be shimmed into the rough opening anyway - you could actually go to 28" x 32" and be fine. Looks like they didn't account for the corner lift brackets or the screws that hold them on - this takes the stock dimension above the rough opening dimensions! Measure everything! This job cannot be done by one person but make sure the person helping is a pretty good friend when you get 'testy' over the opening size. The scissor stair assembly is also very stuff to operate! Takes quite a tug to get it down then much pushing and shoving to get it folded back to the cover. We like these stairs but they certainly could be represented and QA'd quite a bit better... The price reduced right after we received our stairs too by over $50!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solid idea and product...needs more detailed instructions for DIY type One should have some home renovation skills ,and complimentary tools, available ,..Instructions included with product may perhaps assume that at least two to three people with a strong knowledge of renovations and tools are involved ....BUT should one consider this product,..and wishes to install it by oneself,...Please note that from what I understand, disassembly VOIDS product warranty!!!...One may however consider a block and tackle lifting arrangement ...however two people it might be better,(see statement before last )..with one person stationed in the attic or desired space to be accessed...More elaborate instructions on how to lift item into position would have been welcomed!...Measure wisely a 16th of an inch leeway is something one might consider here, experienced DIYers ,I think will know what I mean ..........Negatives aside ,...product is well made and VERY sturdy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality and worked nice for a tight tolerance on this job Unit was found to be damaged when opened. The left hinge was badly bent and would not close correctly. We repaired hinge and worked ok.
