Will heat in the attic affect the fan. I noticed the instructions list not to exceed 140 degrees. I live in Houston

Will be installed in attic
Asked by: mike
I called Fantech because I was not certain The tech indicated that he had just got off the phone with someone asking the same question. So I assume that was you and your got your answer. He confirmed what I thought which is that they are taking about dryer discharge temperature, not room temperature and that these usually go in attics. On a side note my attic gets excessively hot in the summer as well. Not Houston hot but hot. I put one of these in my attic as a discharge fan. and wired it through a line voltage thermostat that turns the fan on at 100 F. By pulling the warm air out of my attic my AC costs went way down even with the additional fan running.

Asked by: DIYgal
As the listing indicates 108' but as a rule the shorter the better.

I highly recommend hiring someone to not only install it but to replace the dryer duct or my case a 15 foot straight vent duct under the house. The installer also keep all angles at or below 45 degrees to assist with air flow. When a piece was removed it became clear to remove the entire section under the house. If I had hooked it up myself it would had clogged due to the amount of lint that built up over the years. With a clean vent duct and installed booster I can now dry clothes in one cycle using medium heat. The booster should also keep lint from building up. The $ spent was well worth it.

House has a long dryer run with multiple bends, and this seems to solve the problem. Drying a load of sheets is cut in half, from 90 minutes to 45 minutes. Only issue was getting it to fit between the joists in my attic ceiling. It is wider than my 12 inch on center spacing, so I had to drop it down a little. Also, definitely wire it before install, no way to get to those little screws. Home depot sells an appliance cord, basically a plug on one end and three bare wires on the other, very easy to do. Turns on and off with the dryer just like it should. It does run a few extra minutes, but that is what it is supposed to do.

Very happy with the fan; however, the instructions seem to assume you have a good knowledge of the fan (I did not). There is a sensitivity adjustment on the fan that I have no idea where it is located looking at the instructions. Turns out I didn't need to adjust it but irritating none the less. Other than the poorly written instructions the fan seems to work very well. My installation is "non standard" but it does a very good job of moving the air. It reduces the drying time significantly.

I did have to adjust the sensitivity as outlined in the directions. Seems to kick on and off as intended. I can hear the air flow, after the dryer has stopped, which lets me know that it is cycling properly, but it isn't loud by any means

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Booster fan Works quite well. Dryer duct is 35' long. This booster fan has significantly lowered the drying time and temperature required to dry a load of clothes. Highly recommend.
