Hello! Thank you for your question! Prior to installation, it is recommended that the entire ceiling be smooth and flat. Apply a drywall primer or paint primer. With textured ceilings, we have had customers who scrape/sand down their ceilings or nail up a layer of plywood to attain that smooth surface. Being that our panels are textured they must have an extremely smooth, flat surface or the panels will pull away from the ceiling. The popcorn ceiling present a problem because once installed, the adhesive will soak into the "popcorn" and eventually fall down. For this reason, we recommend sanding down your ceiling before installation.
Yes, you can install the "glue-up" ceiling panels as a "glue-up" backsplash although it is important to understand the overlap feature on each panel. Once you have your panels installed, the panels can be cleaned with soap and water only. Any harsh abrasives will damage the finish on the tiles. For this reason, we normally do not recommend installing our panels inside a shower or bathtub. For additional protection in high traffic areas (outside of tub, above shower, inside bathroom) we recommend applying a silicone sealant for moisture resistance. This will ensure quality protection for years to come. The recommended adhesive is Loctite® PL Premium for a permanent application. Once the adhesive fully cures, it will solidify so the moisture will not affect your wall.
