The engineered core is made up of compressed wood material. More of a particle board core vs. MDF.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great doors We have these doors between our kitchen and basement and also between our kitchen and dining room. Everyone that comes in our house comments and compliments how good they look and love the idea of being able to see through into the next room. My contractor installed them so can't comment on ease of installation but he did compliment the chose as well. We bought the prehung door but looking at purchasing slabs for french doors between my living room and den. May 11, 2016
