Customer Questions & Answers

What size is this door really? It says 36x80 in one place and 37.5 x 81.xxxx elsewhere.

My existing door is exactly 36x80. Is this going to be too big?

Does this door have to be primed before painting?

Asked by: Tiel
The door does not have to be primed. We do recommend lightly sanding the door with 600grit sandpaper prior to painting.

does the glass have it's own support system. I have heard that in time the glass will break away from it's adhesive setting and slide down.

Is there an allowance for a full door pull set like a thumb latch type handle? Is there an allowance or spacer installed to allow for no denting or pull away from the door?
Asked by: mypepper
Do not understand the question. The glass is surrounded by a swiggle and installed in a molded opening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Door I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with large gaps with this door. I think the blame lies with the installer. I had no problem, but I'm a cabinetmaker. I checked out the fit at the store, and it was fine. The weather forecast called for a good, dry, warm day .... and I cut a big hole in my house. It all went well. The biggest surprise is the glass. It's prismatic. I really wanted stained glass, but with all the bevel and texture in this window, the glass bends the light into all the colors of a rainbow. As a cabinetmaker, I would have priced this at around 3-4000 dollars and I wouldn't have been able to make the beautiful glass. Of course, it's fiberglass, not CVG fir or Honduras Mahogany, but it will last much longer than wood. I really like when technology works to our advantage. It will never be as beautiful as a finely- made wooden door, rubbed to an iridescent glow, but it won't go grey, peel, or make us worried. It is what it is. I like it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Door - Not So Nice Customer Service I purchased this door a few years ago for a front door replacement. I could not be any happier with it. It is very distinctive looking and I get lots of compliments so much so that last weekend I purchased a second one to replace a side door. This time, I noticed a stress crack in the glass of the decorative window pane. The two panes of glass protecting the decorative glass are fine. I tried to contact Feather River TWICE to see if they would send a new damage free panel. I have not heard back. I will keep on calling and emailing them until someone listens to me. Just make sure that the glass is perfectly fine before you bring it home and be prepared to not get the best customer service from Feather River.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great! Door was easy to install with easy to follow instructions. Looks great and have had a lot of positive comments from neighbors. I had to do a little chisel work on the jam plate to get the dead bolt to function properly but that effort was minimal. Even though the door is preprimed (very hard and smooth), I recommend using a quality adhesion primer before painting or your paint may float on the surface and not adhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a Good Door I purchased the door for the detail and craftsman looks. I installed the door only to find that the premade jamb is 1/4 inch or more to big. When I shut the door the gap between the door and it's premade jamb is 1/2 inch? The door handle's latch will barley catch due to the gap. I am going to remove the door and take the jamb apart to trim it and re-install. So much for purchasing a pre-hung door. I have installed 3 other door's (JenWeld) and they are tight no gap. Last time for this brand. keith

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful We bought this door and had it professionally installed, along with custom transom. Given the issues with our old door and the hassle the pros had installing the door, glad we went that route. The door is lovely and every day that I drive up to the house I can see what a great choice we made. We put the door on a red brick colonial house and painted it blue. The colors in the leaded art glass in the door match really well with our choice. I like this door because it has archetectural interest and will meld with many different styles of house.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor quality control Ordered a custom sized unit - Three weeks later it arrived and was installed by Home Depot. Like others have said for whatever reason feather river leaves a huge gap on the lock side of the door, so much in fact that when closed you could see light thru the jamb ! The custom cut was a hack-job and crooked, door never closed correctly and at this point we decided to order another brand of door and return this thing. Much happier with the new door. The door sure looked nice in the showroom - just wish it actually fit... Bummer -

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice door good price. My family recently moved into our first home, the previous owner had 6 children and the steel door was dented and dinged beyond repair, not to mention the 1/2" gap at the bottom letting the cold Colorado air in. We chose this door after going to the other store to look at a Craftsman style door more than twice the price of this one, we saw the Home Depot had a similar one at a more reasonable price, but when we got their we fell in love with this door. It isn't one on all of our neighbor's houses, we had a professional install it (it took 1 man 6 hours to install this and a new door handle), I don't have any problems with light shining, we did take off all molding around previous door to install around the new door. We do have some work to do filling in a couple of spots on our reused molding, but the door itself is fantastic. The close is air tight, but we like it that way.
