It does reset itself to only cyan. Nice and bright colors and it has a quick change (flash) and (smooth) fading color change mode. It buzzes quite loudly. I claims to have a 100,000 hour lifetime or 8 years of CONTINUOUS usage which is pretty good, only a LED bulb can last that long. The button takes several attempts to get it out of Cyan mode but once you do it seems to change easily. There are fancier remote controlled multi-color LED spotlights that work better but for the money it's a pretty good so long as it's not used in a quiet environment or too near guests.

This would indeed be a simple 5 star rating all around for it's price and all the color options. The quality seems good as well. But like other have said, the fact that it resets EVERY time the light goes off essentially makes this useless in a lot of cases. It's just obnoxious. I wanted to give it 2.5 stars, but I figured I would be generous with the 3 since there isn't an option for it.
For others it seems it resets back to cyan, for my wife and I it's the quick change multicolor. We wanted the smooth multicolor but we will settle for the quick change which is why we will keep it. But this in itself makes you ask these questions: Why do different bulbs have different default settings? Why can't they either fix it, or figure out which bulb has which default and label the package so consumers can at least buy the default they original wanted?
I'd only half recommend it depending on what you want to use it for.

Love this bulb. My only complaint is that you can only use it where you can reach it, because to change the color, etc., you have to be able to reach the push-button on the bulb.

Haven't had it for long, but I just wanted to write a review that is actually fair. Yes, the color setting resets. 2 things: you have to be able to reach the bulb, and remember how many times you press the button it for the mode you like.
This bulb looks beautiful on the mode where it gradually transitions from one color to another. A relatively cheap way to add a little decorative color and style to your place. I recommend this and am going to pick up another 4, to put in this octopus style floor lamp thing I have in my hallway :)

I thought it would be great for the porch. Change the color with the seasons. Find a color that didn't attract bugs. Well it puts off very little light, even for 35w. I put two in the porch light fixtures. They never sync up and anytime the switch is turned off they go to a fast flash which is annoying and not enough light to see yours keys to open the door. I put them in the 10 year old daughters room. She thought they were cool for 2 days, and asked me to put the cfl bulbs back.

Yes, it does change colors after you manually set it to do so. The color-changing effect is really rather nice. Unfortunately, the bulb does NOT retain its color change setting when it's turned off. So, you must manually set the color changing function EVERY SINGLE TIME that you turn on the bulb. That said, the bulb is completely useless for most outdoor lamps as those tend to totally enclose light bulbs for weather protection purposes. Not being able to retain its settings is a major strike against this bulb and an annoying and unfortunate design flaw.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Robert I love this light!
I bought just one to see how it works. Love that thing. Going to get another so I can put into swivel floor lamps in my studio.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Ambigulous It is not very bright, hard to imagine a use for it, more of a novelty item.
Because it is not very bright, it will not illuminate your room. It is hard to imagine a use for it, it seems to be more of a novelty item. The construction quality is good, the features are well implemented, and nothing is wrong with it, other than it seems too dim for any application I can think of.
