FibaTape self-adhesive fiberglass mesh is thin and light, but extremely strong and easy to use, and greatly increases joint strength and durability for less cracking. Use this FibaTape 150 ft. Self-Adhesive Drywall Joint Tape to create a strong drywall joint that is resistant to mold, moisture and fire. This tape features a specially formulated adhesive designed for varying humidity and temperature extremes.

  • Utilizes fiberglass yarns to greatly increase joint strength and durability for less cracking
  • Permits same day joint finishing when used with a setting type compound
  • Can also be used for patching holes and cracks

You could use this tape for that purpose, but.... If your ceiling has cracked because it is plaster and your house has settled, your best bet is to invest in removal of the plaster walls and ceiling in that room and installation of new drywall which won't crack as easily from your normal house settling.

Why does the tape show through after I sand each coat of joint compound?

I have applied 2 coats of joint compound sanding after each coat when it is dry. The tape shows through after I sand.

If you are seeing the tape after spackling and sanding smooth, you don't have enough spackle on the wall. Apply more spackle when the top coat is fully dry and allow a slight bump in the wall if necessary. Blending is key here.

you have to use a good layer of compound and feather it down, don't sand too much.
