Answer:
You could use this tape for that purpose, but.... If your ceiling has cracked because it is plaster and your house has settled, your best bet is to invest in removal of the plaster walls and ceiling in that room and installation of new drywall which won't crack as easily from your normal house settling.

Answer:
If you are seeing the tape after spackling and sanding smooth, you don't have enough spackle on the wall. Apply more spackle when the top coat is fully dry and allow a slight bump in the wall if necessary. Blending is key here.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by back to paper tape Junk. 3 joints in ceiling 2 have hairline cracks the full length 12'. Noticed first the day after paint, second a week later. Usg has a video out saying mesh fiberglass can not with stand panel shift, and paper tape is superior. April 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bathroom remodle I like to use this type of tape because it sticks right where I put it. May 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use! Tape was easy to open and to apply. Easy to apply! May 17, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not great Not very sticky and falls off the wall if you dont cover right away. October 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Not much to say. It sticks to the wall and you can spackle on it. I purchased this product to perform drywall repair in our new kitchen for a new electric stove that required a new 220V outlet in the wall. The tape peels off cleanly, adheres to the wall well and received the spackle perfectly without delaminating from the wall during application. October 2, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Guaranteed to fail. Ask any professional - this stuff is junk. Will not resist shifting of panels. Joints crack every time - stick to good old paper tape. June 18, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Absolute junk Every seam where I've used this tape has eventually cracked. Every. Single. One. Had to strip the seams down to get this junk out, then redo them all with paper tape. I should never have even bothered trying this stuff, and will never use it again. Ever. May 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst product ever! The tape edge on one side kept sticking to the roll so one side was always frayed. Then whenever drywall compound was applied, the cut ends and frayed side frayed even more. It was TERRIBLE to use. And it did not adhere well. I'd put it on, turn around for a few minutes & when I turned back, it had fallen off! Expensive, really poor product. April 18, 2015
