Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this stuff! I use this mesh for repairing lath & plaster ceilings and walls. I first remove all the crumbling plaster, and then use plaster washers (aka buttons) with drywall screws to fasten loose plaster back to the lath. After that, I use a layer of this mesh over the buttons. I do it by myself; I usually cut a 3x4 piece at a time. It has just the right amount of adhesive, so it will stick when you put it up, but it's not so sticky that you can't readjust the mesh if necessary. However, if you leave it for weeks, it will fall down. The adhesive is only for application, it's not meant to be permanent. After sticking the mesh up, I smooth out any bubbles or folds in the mesh with a 6in trowel. I usually slice any massive folds (these are especially annoying if I'm working on a coved ceiling, for example). Bumps in the mesh make your life harder when doing additional coats of joint compound. Do your first coat of joint compound (I like the 90 minute setting compound). Make sure to squeeze the mud into the mesh, so that it sticks to any exposed lath, plaster buttons, and the old plaster. I would imagine that gaps would be bad over time, as the mesh and plaster fight gravity. After a few coats of joint compound and some smoothing (I like to use a Magic Trowel, which is basically just a squeegee, but use whatever works best for you), you end up with a nice smooth wall or ceiling. The mesh gives your skim coat strength. In places where I've not used mesh, hitting the wall or moisture from incorrect primer has caused the dried mud to crumble and fall off. Where the mesh is, the mud stays in place. September 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 36" Wide Drywall Repair Mesh Fabric As a residential remodel contractor I regularly have the need to repair drywall. After removing wallpaper or kitchen backsplashes this mesh tape enables me to quickly cover the surface and mud it regaining all the drywall strength. I would highly recommend this product. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product I've used this product for several jobs where the plaster had spider-web cracks or alligatoring and it has performed well. If you're repairing a ceiling, you'll need some help unrolling the fabric since it's an awkward application. Otherwise, if you're doing a wall, you can get it started on the wall and unroll it by yourself. Occasionally there will be a tear in the fabric which is a minor annoyance. I cover it with two coats of All Purpose mud, smoothed with a pool trowel (nice rounded corners). Sand smooth and you're ready for primer and paint. After you've sanded you may notice that the mesh shows through. In my experience, there isn't any need to re-coat because the mesh doesn't show through the paint. October 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product for repair of old plaster This is an essential procduct for repairing cracked lath plaster. I used it in combination with concret bonding solution, screws with thin washers at point of major cracks and ceiling joists, and strong paster. this mesh is essential to a new life for old plaster. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product, good for DIYers I've been using it on our 1901 house with plaster/wood lath walls. The sticky backing makes application very straightforward. Two or three tight coatings of wallboard compound with light sanding of high spots in between coats, and the result has been the best looking walls I've ever done. Tip: search FINE HOMEBUILDING for a helpful article. January 1, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked as described The product worked just as advertised. Easy to install the self-adhesive mesh and then simply skim coat over the product. I do not believe this product will provide any type of structural integrity, however it certainly should strengthen the skim coat. September 26, 2012
