Answer:
Yes. Tape the Durock joints and fill the joints with Thinset mortar just like you would fill drywall joints with drywall compound. Do not use drywall compound or mastic with cement board. After this dries for 24 hours, place a minimum of 2 coats of Redgard onto the joints and all exposed face of the Durock (cement board).

In my opinion I don't see why you couldn't, it is the same tape material as the non adhesive kind as far as I can tell.

Yes, we just did our bathroom. Applied the joint tape to the backer board, covered it with a light coat of tile thinset and then applied Redgard once this had dried. Results came out great for us.

I always put !00% silicone caulk in the joints before the thin-set to ensure water penetration in case it gets through the grout and then the seam behind it.
Have not had a problem yet.
Best of luck to you.

Answer:
The tape is self adhesive so you don't need thinset or anything to apply it. But assuming you are tiling over it, then yes you would use thinset or tile adhesive on top of the mesh.

Answer:
The tape is self adhesive so you just stick it in place over the joints. One the tape is stuck over the seams and joints you just spread tile thinset over the taped joints and let it set. Once the thinset has dried, we applied a coat of Redgard to create a waterproof membrane for our tub/shower area and then tiled on top of that.

We have air ducts separating about an inch apart and I was told to get fiber glass tape and "paint" mastic over the fiberglass tape to seal the holes... can any one give me some advice on this?? I am only concerned if during the winter when I turn on the heater will the tape cause any issues??

Jakel,
I am not 100% sure of what you are asking for. If you are speaking that the air duct itself has separated at the seam if you can use tape and mastic I am going to say no. You have to seal that gap either with sheet metal first then you can apply 3 inch tape (do not use fiberglass tape made for drywall joints). If the gap or separation is 1/8" or less then yes just tape and mastic. Be sure to use

Jakel,
I am not 100% sure of what you are asking for. Be sure to use tape Model # FGW3 or SKU # 657855 found at the home depot. For mastic use Duct Seal 321 or Model # AC-DMS 0.5 or Model # WBA50 or SKU # 559722 in the store. Get a cheap 3 inch chip brush to apply the mastic and then throw away the brush.
Hope this helps and best of luck to you.
Respond if this does not help and try to give as much detail as to what you see.
Thank you

Hi Milkman, if you want added strength use the modified. The manufacture of the tape only states thin-set, does not state modified or unmodified.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Smells like new vinyl Sticks better than AEP brand but smells like new vinyl. You have to buy a big roll so if you have a sensitive nose you'll always smell the roll. AEP brand doesn't smell and sticks OK if there's no dust on the board. August 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Makes building counter tops a breeze! Love the self-adhesive feature of this cement board tape. Stays in place. Creates nice sharp edges for counter tops and excellent for creating round tables and edges. Very easy to work with. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use and self adhesive feature works well! Tape was used for a DIY pool bathroom remodel, which was converted into a wet room, with shower, toilet and sink. All the walls floor and ceiling are Durock with Redgard liquid membrane sealer, and then tiled. After the cement board installation, I wiped down all cement board seams with fresh water to remove all the dust and debris prior to taping. I also sharpened a 4" putty knife to facilitate tape cutting. Application of the tape was made easy and fast by unrolling the tape directly onto the seam, then striking the tape down by running the putty knife over the tape to flatten and press it down, assuring good contact of the adhesive with the cement board. At the end of the seam just tip the knife up and use the sharpened edge to cut the tape by pulling the roll against the sharpened edge. I found the adhesive to be more than adequate after taking these two simple measures. No measuring, and no loose tape fibers, tangles or stuck together tape. My only complaint is that it should be available in 300' rolls. My 5'X8' room used one complete 150' roll plus about 15 ' from another roll, hence the lower value rating June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazingly easy to work with - does inside and outside corners with ease. Two thumbs up. Just remodeled our bathroom and made a shower niche with backer board. I used this self adhesive cement board tape to reinforce the inside and outside corners of the niche along with the seams of the backer board. Amazed at how easy it is to work with, sticks and stays put and even stayed put on inside and outside corners. We cut it with scissors and applied the thinset as soon as we'd finished taping the joints. There was no sign of the tape losing adhesion although the instructions recommend that you don't leave an unsealed taped joint too long before applying the thinset otherwise the adhesive bond can break down. Once the thinset was set, we applied a waterproof membrane to the shower niche and the whole job was very easy. May 26, 2015

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by it works well it works really well for what it was made for..... April 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Picked up a roll of this tape to use on all the joints of the cement backer board flooring we recently put down in our master bath. It goes down easily and I smoothed it over with a 3in1. Just be sure that there is no dust or anything before you apply it or it won't adhere properly. I am not exactly too sure how much extra help this stuff provides but hey if it improves the strength of the flooring I'm all floor it. See what I did there? You see what I did there. June 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by filament tape for my dryer I used the filament tape successfully to tape over a hole in my dryer lint trap. It has lasted longer than the sticky screen tape used for window screens. April 12, 2016
