After only a month of installing this filter I noticed that the lining of the filter was breaking down or falling apart. This is the first time I used this filter. For many years I have been using the more expensive (and heavier) Whirlpool filter I've always bought at Lowes. I figured a water filter was a water filter and bought this filter because it costs much less. Now I'm concerned about particles from the filter clouging up my shower heads, faucets, dishwasher, and lawn sprinklers.
I like saving money, but this filter seems to be junk and constructed out of very cheap material.

Product lifetime exceeded my own expectations. But note that product lifetime (i.e., time prior to fouling/clogging) will vary based on the specific conditions of your water.

I own a home with 2 ½ baths, an ice dispensing refrigerator, a dishwasher, washing machine and a 50 gal. hot water heater. I also water plants and trees in the spring, summer and fall. When I renovated my home I installed a whole house water filtration system. With no loss of water pressure. The initial cost of system and installation? Less than $100. A great investment, especially for older Philadelphia Row Homes.
The Filtrete filters keep the new copper water pipes clean, my drinking water fresh and help save on wear and tear of new appliances and the water heater. The system is a lot less expensive to maintain, rather than buying 2-3 filters very 3 months, just for tap water, I spend $25 a year for 2 whole house filters, on average.
