I want to put this on my back porch by using a recessed light conversion kit to hard wire this in its place. Will this pose any problems?

Answer:
I'm not sure what "a recessed light conversion kit" is, but if 120 is available in the socket and is connected to a 15 A relay, it should work just fine.

Answer:
For safety purposes, the manufacturer recommends a minimum of 20 inches from the ceiling to the top of the heater. It is not recommended that it be installed in the manner you are suggesting as this could be a hazard.

Answer:
A Watt is equivalent to 3.41 BTU per hour. So a 1500 W heater produces 5115 BTU/hour. Not that much, which explains the complaints. And yes, British Thermal Units should be banned from the earth.

Answer:
When working with Halogen Patio Heaters, we prefer to reference watts and amps, rather than BTUs as that refers more to propane thank electricity. This is a 1500 watt appliance that draws 12.5 amps. The unit is designed to heat a small seating area, providing heat out 3-4 foot from the unit, and is ideal to hang over a round table.

Answer:
very easy to reach to the heater and toggle to switches,
only problem would be if you were very short or had hung it too high to reach.

Answer:
The Hanging Halogen Patio Heater has 2 switches - a 700 watt switch for low, an 800 switch for medium and both switches turned to the on position for high. I has a 7'8" cord that can be plugged into any standard outlet.

My fault did not consider that when purchasing. will have to run a new outlet with 12 2 wire and a 20 amp breaker dedicated to this unit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alternative To A Firepit I thought long and hard about how to add heat to my patio. We live by the water on an Island in the Puget Sound and it can get very windy so my fire pit was always sending smoke into the face of my guests, not a pleasant experience. Propane heaters require regular tank fill ups and die when you need them most. In addition, the heat is very directional. This heater over my patio table works great even when the temps get down to 50 degrees, lower than that we head inside. The cord is 9 feet but I still need an extension cord. Make sure you get a heavy duty one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not enough heat My outdoor deck tends to be about 60 degrees most of the time (colder in the winter, but I bought this for the summer, esp. summer evenings). This very cute heater does not throw enough heat. only good if sitting right underneath it. it will not heat space beyond itself, i.e., a radius of 3-4 feat. it's also possible to use indoors, and for that it might be a good heater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great patio heater Beautiful patio heater that works great for us. We have it in our covered outdoor patio. It takes the chill out of the southern CA winter evenings. It is not meant for really cold larger spaces. Two of our friends are planning on getting one for their houses. Nice design with great copper finish. Just hang it up and plug it in. Light from heater is not too bright and gives off nice ambiant lighting.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lackluster Heat! The product looks the way it should however performance is lackluster at best. It just doesn't throw out the heat. I have multiple ground or freestanding parabolic type units with the same heat specifications and ratings and for whatever reason the floor units cast a much greater amount of heat. Not sure why this hanging heater is not the same. I'm rather disappointed because I love the way it looks and easily hangs, etc but wow...just very little heat! It's more like a light than a heater.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weak Heat We purchased this for our outdoor back deck. The heat is weak at best and did not help heat our outdoor area at all. If you are more than three feet from the heater you cannot even feel the heat. Not a good choice for an outdoor area.
