Very little heat is directed out the top of the unit, due to the direction of the bulbs. The manufacturer recommends 3 foot of clearance above the unit from anything combustible.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great! This was a Christmas gift for my parents but was back ordered until mid February. They said it was definitely worth the wait. They love to sit on the front porch year long & this allows them to do so more comfortablely. They said it kept them warm enough & really enjoyed it. April 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works well, looks good got as a gift for Christmas from my kids. hope they keep looking at your products January 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to assemble, plenty of heat for patio table. Just received yesterday, so don't know how it will do over time, but even on the lowest setting it cranked out some heat. Easy to assemble. The box was a little damaged but everything inside was packaged really well, do no damge. December 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great! This heater is easy to assemble, inexpensive to operate, and with different heat setting it works perfectly for cool to cold weather. November 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Features Bought this month and tried it out at the first opportunity. It worked just as advertised. The heat was warm but not too hot. Broke the chill of very cool autumn evening on the patio. October 24, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hot deck We bought our heater last week and just in time for fall, works great on our deck. October 26, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Stopped Working after 3 Uses Decent heat for an electric (though if you really want significant heat buy a tabletop propane unit), but it stopped working the fourth time I tried to use it, would not turn on. No hassle return at the local HD store. I suspect this was a fluke but I reordered a different tabletop electric model. The unit is taller/bigger than you might imagine, so look at the perspective closely in the video. The copper color/finish looks painted on (and is). December 8, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works for me... The patio heater was easy to put together and fits nicely on the patio table. It doesn't obstruct the view of the other people at the table. The heater takes away the chill, but doesn't get as hot as a propane heater. I like that I can adjust the heat using the switches on the side. Since it is electric, we can bring it in the garage when we play darts. The light and heat does attract bugs; however citronella candles took care of that. February 15, 2010
