Hardwired 120-Volt Inter-Connectable Ionization Smoke Alarm with Battery Backup (4-Pack) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 110.

The hardest part of the install was finding the breaker to the circuit that provided the electricity to the device(s). While I had to switch out the old base-plate for the new one as they were incompatible, I was able to reuse the old mounting screws since the new plate had multiple choices for the locations of the screws. It came with a "no name" 9V battery which I do not expect to last very long but the good news is that battery door is on the front of the device and makes for easy replacement. Overall I installed 4 of these and they each took about 10 minutes to switch out, after locating the correct breaker switch for the alarm.

The FireX smoke alarms are hard wired so that when one alarm goes off they all sound so no matter where you are in the house you can hear the alarm instantly. They chirp when the battery gets low. It is recommended to change the battery annually so the house is always protected. An alarm is required for each sleeping room and for each floor level. We have a total of eight for the whole house and garage. I installed the system when I built the house 12 years ago. I am very pleased with their appearance and function.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Kidde Smoke alarm w/battery In March 2016, I purchased two 4-packs of Kidde Smoke Alarms with battery back (battery included). I used them to replace every smoke alarm in my house (installed in the same month). Early this month(Sep 2016), the alarms started chirping indicating battery needed to be replace. I replaced the Kidde provided battery with a newly purchased non-kidde batteries and it solved the problem. I called Kidde and attempted to explain the issue. They wanted all sorts of info from the boxes (who keeps a smoke alarm box). Info off my Home Depot receipt was not good enough. If you buy this product, either keep the box or use a reputable battery instead of the included Kidde. In the future, I will buy only products where the vendor at least makes an attempt to solve the problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Electrical plug same as old Kidde unit - used new mouniting base. Mount with "A" line horizontal and battery vertical. Old Kidde units had light, but replacements were $$$. So got 4 without a light for $12.50/unit. These also had the identical 3-prong plug connector, so it was easy to replace. Unplugged old units and plug in new units., no wiring required. I did have to change the mounting base, which was included. Old mounting base didn't fit new unit - but just loosen two screws and put on new mounting base. The 3 wire system Red-White-Black, for power and interconnection with other smoke detectors worked fine. The directions are multi-language, so it will be easy to miss reading "there is a "A" line scribed inside the mounting base. Make sure the "A" is right side up and the scribe line is horizontal. Mount the smoke alarm so battery door is vertical and on the bottom when mounted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replaced all of our smoke detectors Needed to replace the smoke detectors in our home because they were over 20 years old! We purchased 2 of these 4-packs. Installation was straight forward. We used a non-contact voltage meter to be sure the electricity was off to each detector before disconnecting the old unit. Back up 9 volt battery included. These new units have the back up battery much more easily accessible than the old units. Will be a breeze to replace batteries yearly.

Replaced these units due to their age one or more had started to give false alarms. Checking the house at 4:30am is not my idea of a good time. The units I wanted to replace were also firex. When I checked Consumer Reports I found that Kidde had bought firex since mine had been installed. Kidde was one of the top rated ones and upon checking I found that firex carried the exact same model number as Kidde. My home has three floors including the basement and is hardwired. The only problem was that the electrical pigtail connector had been changed in the new models so each box had to have this as well as the base plate changed. Instead of 2 or 3 minutes each allow 10 minutes. The design is an improvement and these units have the battery backup replacement door on the face so you don't have to take them down to replace the batteries. So far they appear to be working fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a charm Because my house was 12 years old one night the alarm went off. I read that alarms must be changed every 10 years. I replaced all of mine at once. They plug in and use the same Socket being they are the same brand as originally installed. Now I am happy knowing that the alarm won't wake me up for another 10 years.
