Customer Questions & Answers

I'm curious, exactly what initiates the safety light, the smoke or the power outage, or both?

I have been unable to find the answer to my question. It would be appealing that the safety light would have the battery backup (i.e., two batteries) such that during a power outage light could be provided by the detectors.
Asked by: sucecreek
The safety light is activated when the smoke detector is in alarm and does not act as an emergency light when the power goes out.

Is the escape light red or white? Both are mentioned in reviews - very important to know!!

Asked by: Farmgrl
Light was white.

Customer Reviews

Hardwired 120 Volt Inter-Connectable Ionization Smoke Alarm with Escape Light and Battery Backup i12080 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The product so far is working well I replaced all 3 of the existing wired smoke alarms in my two story home, including the basement. The time to remove/install each was about 10 minutes, 40 minutes total for all 3. Remember to keep all old wire connectors and screws for the electrical boxes. The only trick I found was figuring out which plastic tabs on the base plate to punch out to match the electrical box screw holes. Punching out the tabs did take some force, and I was afraid of cracking the base plate. The fit to the ceiling was good, and after all three installed, they tested fine. I like that when one goes off, they all go off. I also like the light that helps illuminate the area. Remember to buy two 9-volt batteries for each device, when it's time to replace them. One runs the alarm and the other the light, in case of power loss. The alarm comes with batteries included. I'm happy with the system....I just hope I never really need it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from White escape light works great 10 YEAR WARRANTY SAVES MONEY WHITE ESCAPE LIGHT These work like any other smoke detector but have the added advantage of a 10 YEAR WARRANTY instead of the usual 5 year. I read most detectors are only good for about 5 years. SAVE MONEY. It is less expensive in the long run to purchase this model. And there is a WHITE ESCAPE LIGHT that comes on to help you see in an emergency. One caveat is they take two 9 volt batteries. Easy to install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good smoke detector Has flashing white light that guides you during actually fire, only problem I find has been that it has no green light to let you know it's connected, it has the blinking red light to let you know the battery is connected and good. Overall I like it, it's simple.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No false alarms I had a house full of no-name alarms that kept going off for no reason. Home Depot stopped carrying the brand. I replaced them all with Kidde units and so far, so good. This one is at the top of the stairs. I used this once because it came with a light. This one I had to special order, but I liked the light function at the top of the stairs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The safety light is just what I needed for my hall I like the idea of having an extra light at the top of the stairs that would go on with the smoke detectors. This fit the bill and works with my wired-in system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to find this type in stores, but easy to order online at HomeDepot.com This smoke detector is very easy to install and easy to use. There is only one button, allowing you to temporarily hush the alarm, and to test it. The light makes me feel safer, since the detector is mounted in a stairway away from windows. I was able to use existing wiring and mount.
