The Fireplace Plug will cover and seal the damper completely from below and fits most brick fireplaces correctly. The edges curl down the back and sides of the fireplace for smaller fireplaces.
Here are some tips to assist with the install:
1. Install the plug under the damper, not up in the chimney.
2. Inflate the plug (about 10 breaths of air) so it is full of air but very soft. Insert the plug and adjust the pole height so the plug is 2-3" below contact with the damper. Adjust the pole to install the plug in a "V" not a "^". Then tuck the front and back of the pillow up and add a little more air so it seals.
3. Adjust the air pressure. If you put in too much air, it can become stiff and not seal. The air pressure can be adjusted so the plug will conform to the shape of the fireplace and seal tightly.
A small slit can be made in the plug to accommodate a damper handle. BEFORE MAKING ANY SLIT FOR THE DAMPER HANDLE, trial fit the plug. If the damper handle is in the way, test fit it first by opening the damper to move the handle; or remove the handle temporarily. Read Less

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Chimney Fireplace Plug Depending upon the physical dimensions and design of your fireplace, the installation may not be as easy as the instructions portray. My installation took about one hour as the space was confining and inserting the plug in the instructed manner was problematic.. Too early to tell if it will be effective this winter, but not having plastic over the fireplace opening is an improvement in appearance. I would recommend that the manufacturer include a red safety ribbon to be warn of the plug being in place when the fireplace doors are opened. October 11, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Did not work for me We recently had air conditioning installed in our house and since then our living room has smelled like smoke due to air being pulled down the chimney. I tried installing this as directed below the flue damper. As described in the instructions I had to cut a slit in one of the provided spaces to allow the damper handle to slip through. Although the space below the damper is just about the maximum size listed for this product I'd say the plug was a few inches too small. Once inflated it bunches up on the edges and in my case it was just a bit too small to get a good seal. After trying that for a few days with no reduction in the smoke smell I moved this product above the damper, which is how another brand of inflatable chimney plug says it should be installed. This worked a bit better, reducing but not eliminating the smoke smell in the room. Although the space above my damper is a bit smaller I think the bunching around the edges of the plug still kept me from getting a good seal. Eventually I purchased a 16"x48" piece of fiberglass insulation (Owens Corning R-6.7 Unfaced Multi-Purpose Insulation Roll 16 in. x 48 in.) and placed it below the damper. It was a good fit for the space and tucked into the nooks and crannies of the bricks well. That seems to have done the trick, for about 10% of the cost of this product. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product performed as advertised I found the Battic Plug online and installed it as soon as it arrived. I have severe heat loss in my cabin, with a very inefficient fireplace. We have had one of the coldest winters on record. The Battic Plug definitely is keeping the draft to a minimum, and keeping my inside stone wall much warmer. I monitor this constantly with an infrared heat sensor. Since I am the installer (smaller female), I recommend safety glasses, work gloves, and a work shirt -- because I needed to climb partway in the fireplace to tuck in the corners and sides of the plug, and I got debris in my eyes, plus sooty hands. Just didn't have the arm reach necessary inside my fireplace. I removed the plug for a fire on Sunday, and am glad to say it was even easier to reinstall on Monday. January 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works, very well I bought this product several years ago when they were first introduced at a Home Show. I have an older fireplace so purchased this style to fit the elongated Battic Door. (the round style is for the new fireplaces with the round battic doors) It was very easy to assemble and install (by myself, no helper). Just make sure you do not inflate it fully until you have it in place. (I go back every once in a while and make sure to check inflation, just like any balloon type product, it will lose air and I have used mine for several years now, only have to re inflate about once or twice a year if that). Immediately I noticed it stopped the constant whistling from the air being sucked out of the house. I don't even notice the product in place (I tucked the tube out of site), the stem is there to hold it in place and it is black. This is one of the products I use to help reduce my energy cost in an old house that used to be an energy drainer. December 13, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works great The product came in fast and works like a charm. Was getting a draft that just wouldn't quit in my basement, and now, nothing. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Energy Saver I purchased this product to keep heat from escaping through the chimney. It is easy to install and works very well. March 1, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It's ok but not that great It serves it purposes to stop the draft, but not all the draft. There are still some draft around the perimeter so I used old t-shirts to seal the openings. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by flue block is really good at blocking the flue and keeping the cold out side March 1, 2016
