Answer:
No, DO NOT use these for handling hot firewood. You need specialty heat protection gloves, aka welding gloves. See these gloves at HomeDepot.com (link below). We use the all blue thicker ones for our welding (senior buyer for a major construction firm.), however you may not need something that thick. - Read More

Answer:
They should protect you from radiant heat but they are not flame resistant. I keep a pair in my jacket to use with my fireplace.

Last year I bought this same pair but they were XL, Today when I looked on-line and in the store I see them only in Large, not XL. Do they still make these in XL size?

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product, stands up to commercial construction use. Good product, stands up to commercial construction use. I have one particular crew member that prefers these gloves over all others I provide (I am the senior buyer for a major construction firm). They will last him a good month, and consider they get lots of usage. He says they provide enough dexterity that he can write, but also provides enough protection from splinters and other construction work. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Durable My husband buys constantly. He is in construction and the gloves save his hands. This is a new style for him and he is happy with them. This particular style seems to be lasting longer than the ones he usually gets at Home Depot. They were a few dollars more but worth it. June 15, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk, save your money, look for something better. Fingertips wore out in less than 1 month with only moderate usage. The palm side finger material seems to be felt. I'm not kidding. December 4, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good golve to have around when doing work I like this give because I use it everyday when I work. It is starting to come in stitched but I still use because it's a work glove. April 1, 2016
