Product Overview

Imagine the horror of enduring a fire or flood in your home or office and the pain of rebuilding. While couches and lamps and dishes are replaceable, imagine not being able to replace important documents and electronic files that are destroyed in the fire, by the water used to fight the fire, or by a flood. While shopping for a new couch might be fun, waiting in line at the county office to obtain a new birth certificate or marriage license is annoying at the very best. Why not be prepared in case of a fire by placing your important documents and computer back-up devices in the First Alert model 2013F 1/2 hour fire rated chest that is also waterproof. The 2013F is a UL classified media protection device tested to withstand an external temperature up to 1550°F for 1/2-Hour. In addition to the UL testing, the 2013F has also been independently verified to protect electronic media, such as memory sticks, CD and external hard drives, in a fire. The independently verified waterproof seal on the 2013F enables the chest to float during a flood, making it easy to locate, as well as providing protection from the flood water. The 2013F includes a convenient carry handle and is secured by a clamping style latch with key lock. All First Alert fire rated products are covered by a 5 year manufacturer warranty.

Why is it unsafe to store firearms in this safe

Asked by: Kevin
This thing sucks moisture out of the surrounding environment. Anything that you put in it will mildew or rust.

I even had a large silica gel packet in there, and it came out feeling damp it had absorbed so much moisture. After the first time this happened, I washed the safe out, dried it thoroughly, and filled the bottom with rice completely, placing my (newly clean) documents over the rice. About a month later I opened it up to find the rice expanded and damp and my papers once again coated with mildew. Gross. This thing has literally one job: to keep my documents in tact in any conditions. Apparently all it can do is speed up decay in the best of conditions. I'm not sure how they managed to create such a great water capture device, they should sell this thing as a survival tool for the desert.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Locker plate should be made of metal! The lid locker plate would rather be made of metal than plastic - otherwise it is good to go!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality Have to open the safe every two weeks to air out the safe and you have to put everything in a dishwasher safe container if you don't want things ruined. I'm sorry that's not a safe. By the fourth or fifth time I opened the safe to air it out my birth certificate, passport, social security card and jewelry ruined and covered with mold.My papers were moist and damp and mold. I put anything in there dry.
